I beg to differ, swords in medieval times were, as the book Excaliber described them, Big clubs made out of a blade. There was little finesse to medival swordplay.
Even in Lord of the Rings, while it wasnt to the extend of classic medieval weaponry, the swords were still quite heavy, and with a little skill they would be very effective weapons against most any enemy at close range.
As for me, I would take a long sword or a crossbow depending on the battle.

Two-handed long sword. Preferably +3!

I'd like to be a cross between a Ranger of Ithilien, where hiding in the forest and picking out unaware enemies with an arrow to the throat is the name of the game. Like a hidden assasin.

Haha, I just realised, I put "a cross between a Ranger of Ithlien" ... and then forgot to say what I would cross it with!
I would cross it with a rider of Rohan, or more specifically a knight of Rohan. Now that is honourable, although maybe not when you're trampling over hoards of orcs trying to run away.

Hmm.. I would have two weapons. First being the Arrows of the Elves and the second being the little Elf swords that Legolas had.

I would have to agree with Dillson here.
Also, I couldn't be confident as Legolas was with a bow. Sure, he was extremely fast, and extremely accurate, but that would do him little good if he had 3 Orcs closing in on him faster then he could grab the arrows and use them.

That's why Rangers (like Faramir and Aragorn) are so brilliant. They are all-round warriors.
The perfect warrior would be a cross between Éomer (the best horseman in Middle-Earth), Aragorn (greatest hunter and traveller of the Third Age - says Gandalf) and Imrahil (leader of the knights of Gondor, but we never saw him, or the knights, in the films).

i would go with a bow, but if the fighting got too close a long straight edge sword would be my back up. no shield, to big and heavy.

Bow ;D I've been training to do archery for at least two years now, I can certainly shoot accurately and get enough power behind the arrows

I'd take the weapon the Urukai had in Helms Deep. Those hooked swords are awesome!

First I would have an elvan battle bow because I prefer to plink off the enemy at long range and if only one or two get close hence the battle bow. Then if I had to do close combat duel elvan rapiers and just for a spare I have with my quiver some sort of short sword or elvan glave like what they used at the lonly mountain. Yes I like elvan weaponry

One simply can't go wrong with an elvish crafted longsword. That would be my first choice of weaponry
