You can base your decision on either the books or the film, or a crazy hybrid of the two if you're mad.
I want to create other topics on your favourites elves, and men (maybe not dwarves because there weren't too many of them in the film).
So .. who is your favourite hobbit? (from any of Tolkien's material)

Going by the small world that I am aware of, I would have to say Samwise Gambee. He just reminds me of the underdog of the story, and I am pretty sure he felt the same way about himself. W/out Sam, I do not believe Froto could have made it to Morder to fufill his mission. Having never read the book, it really touched me when he and Froto were walking together at the end of 'The Two Towers' and Froto was speaking of the stories that would eventually be told about thier great journey. He said that Sam would be remembered as Sam the great, Sam the hero, and Sam thought he was joking, but Froto told him he was dead serious. I thought that was one of the best scenes of the trilogy, but then again I love small things like that. So yep, Sam gets my vote. (That's one of the reasons I added him to the LOTR Header Banner here )

Hmmmmmmmm...hard to say if I do have ONE favorite.....but I woul have to lean towards Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. Frodo had already been around Bilbo and all his stories of adventures and was already broken in a little bit towards being an adventurer. Whereas Bilbo was simply a nice quiet little hobbit who suddenly got thrown in a grand adventure with a bunch of dwarves and had to fight trolls, spiders, dragons, orcs and other nasty things. He had to trick Gollum out of his ring.....all in all I just felt something more for Bilbo for the courage he showed in his situation. Not to say that Frodo didn't...I just felt Bilbo was less prepared for it.

I'm with ya CW!! Bilbo is my all time favorite hobbit. He is the reason I fell in love with hobbits to begin with lol. The Hobbit was a simple story yet still remarkable and Bilbo was the perfect protagonist I think.

I like Sam a great deal, but my favorite hobbit is Pippin. The reason is simple. My youngest son, Whippersnapper is a hobbit. How can I tell?
He's been demanding "second breakfast" since he was 3. I can not describe the eruption of laughter in our section of the theatre when Pippin asked "What about SECOND breakfast??" as the hobbits and Strider headed for Weathertop. Suffice it to say the other moviegoers were perturbed and confused.
"What about SECOND breakfast"...another household catchphrase...

Well I kinda like Smeagol myself, but...
...probably Bilbo. Aside from having one of the best names in literature (I can just say Bilbo Baggins all day), he is the rebel. He's the one that doesn't listen to what the other hobbits say and does his own thing. He goes on many adventures when most hobbits don't go farther than the nearest pub.

I think it was Sam that accompanied Frodo all the way, I would easily choose him for being so loyal and respectful like a true mate should.

That was Pippin. Merry hung out with Eowyn and Theodin.
Whoohooo! Another Pippin fan!

I'd take Frodo, book or movie.
And I think that there's plenty of dwarves for a favorite dwarf thread. Anyone here read The Hobbit?
