Have you see any of the new re-vamped episodes, Chris? If you have, are they all they are cracked up to be?

I have seen the ones that have aired so far ("Balance of Terror" and "Miri"). The effects that were changed were not 'changed' so much as 'updated'. The redone effects were shown in the same way as the old ones. The ship still moved across the screen in the same way, etc. It can be quite subtle at times. The most noticable difference though was the Romulan ship. It looked very different.

I watched Devil in the Dark last night, the one with the creature in the mining facility killing people, Spock eventually mind melds with it.
I agree with Chris, it's like what they did with Star Wars, all of the original effects are in tact, but have been recolored or something. I can tell a difference, but can't quite put my finger on it, almost as if it looked like it was filmed 10 years ago with the same effects as opposed to filmed 40 years ago.

it's like what they did with Star Wars Not really. Brand new stuff was added to the Star Wars movies. Not so for Trek.

For example, if you watch an original VHS version of A New Hope, you can see white boxes around the X-Wings and TIE Fighters as they fly in space, but once it was remastered, it was the same special effect, just cleaned up a bit, minus the white boxes.

Star Trek wasn't just remastered, though. Some of the effects you see were created completely from scratch for this new release, including every single space shot.

I have only seen 1 original episode of Star Trek (A City On The Edge Of Forever) the rest i have watched on tv which are the remastered versions.
Looks cool, although i can watch the originals, doesn't worry me.

The remastered episodes doesn't take anything away from the originals in my opinion. Some fans prefer the originals and think the new versions are blasphemy, but either way is cool with me.

I've only seen two thus far, and I thought so myself.

For once the UK is showing this show only two months behind USA and after watching a few episode I have to say I've been impressed with the remastering especially since I remember with affection when it was originally shown in this country. Best thing that happened and the first competition for Dr. Who.

I too was impressed, but they show them at such akward hours here, it's rare that I get a chance to watch them.

I know that feeling, you find a programme that you enjoy watching and then play hunt it down in the listings.
Funny, Star Trek seems to be so popular here that they've put it on both Digital (they even managed to get it on the right c hannel too) and Terrestrial. Digital are even giving us three opportunities to watch, just in case we miss an episode.

I Think I have a section called 'Cable Favorites'. I should check to see if they have Star Trek available.

Well that was silly of you wasn't it? First thing I did when I heard it was coming back on. Well, I had to know when and where didn't I?
