ya know..I once had a theory that the gov had a hand in the movies.. like they would tell certain movie companies to make films to test the reactions of people or to get them semi-ready for something.. I know its weird but it was a crazy idea I had one day..lol. Makes you wonder about A LOT of 'what if's' doesn't it ?..lol. Conspiricy Theory at it's best .... I heard rumors that the US Government, and the US Military was offering assistance in 'Independence Day' to as military techinical directors, or something, but when they discovered the plans for the Area 51 scene, they told the producers to cut that scene out, or they would withdraw from the project, and not help out anymore. That one right there made me wonder, and go "Hmmmmm" And Voyager is right, the millitary was helping with ID4 until the full script was shown to them and then they baulked.

lol thanks Ash..
And Voyager, I think that the reason that they still say it doesn't exist is because they think that if they are stuborn enough that people will give up ...

yeah like that will happen.
Think Roswell would be on the map still if that were true?

Of course there is the theories that everything was moved out of Roswell, and nothing alien exists in Area 51 anymore. Who knows.
All I do know is I spent 9 months living in Roswell, New Mexico, and the residents there don't believe any of that alien stuff. I guess it's because they grew up with it, but they were surprised when I told them how famous thier little town is across America.
Like I've always said, the only aliens I saw in Roswell, were illeagle ones. ;D

by 2025 whites will be the biggest minority in the US, with African Americans 3rd.
The majority? Mexican Americans

I entered this thread thinking "Everyone is going to say deep impact of course."
I then enter and look at the score of the poll and verbally say "WHAT?!"
I saw them both, but the only one that seemed realistic was Deep Impact. Deep impact had 1. Better actors 2. More complete story 3. More believeable story 4. A few subplots
Armagedon had 1. More action 2. More speical effects 3. Liv Tyler -- (well she's hot and I was trying to think of some other good points of the film)
Armagedon just struck me as silly. The plot is the US goverment decides to send a bunch of oil drillers to blow up an asteroid that's going to destroy the planet earth and there was little character development in any character other than Bruce Willis's. As well as the fact that in that movie the entire story was "These guys are getting sent up there, and they are going to blow up an asteroid." In Deep Impact the story was These guys get sent up there, and we need to deal with the rest of the world while it happens.
I know you guys are going to say that it was science fiction and therefore it doesnt need to be realistic, but I completely disagree. If this was set on a fictional planet with a style of goverment that was completely imagined by the writer then that would be one thing. But this was set on Earth, not Endor. Therefore it should be realistic to Earth.
Oh well, just my opinion, I see that i'm in the minority on these boards.

Interesting. I never heard about this before. However, I thought that both DEEP IMPACT and ARMAGEDDON were pretty scary to me. The fact that some big old rock from outer space is going to collide with our planet soon just gives me the heebie jeebies. Also, speaking of movies about asteroids, I would also recommend 3 other movies - one called METEOR (1979) which starred Sean Connery, a television mini-series called ASTEROID (1997) which starred Michael Biehn (he played Sargeant Kyle Reese in the first TERMINATOR movie) and JUDGMENT DAY (1999) which starred Ice-T and Mario Van Peebles. I encourage any of you guys to check these films out, especially if you are concerned about comets and asteroids as much as I am. Each of these movies - DEEP IMPACT, ARMAGEDDON, METEOR, ASTEROID and JUDGMENT DAY - show a different method of getting rid of these oncoming celestial rocks. Check all of them out, if you can.

*wow, a thread where I can talk about Armageddon!!! Screaming out from the top of my lungs* ARMAGEDDON!!!
I have seen both movies, but Deep Impact is not that good as Armageddon. I have seen Armageddon 4 times already and I can't get enough of it! To begin with, it has an excellent cast! I really like Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck and Owen Wilson, but when you put them together in a movie they are excellent! The plot might be a bit ridiculous sometimes, but you have to admit it's original. Usually in this type of movies, when a disaster is about to strike and they decide to save the world, they don't experience so many difficulties. In their case, everything that can go wrong, goes wrong, and even though everything seems hopeless they manage to save the world. The idea of self sacrifice for the benefit of all mankind is very emotional. When I see the last scenes on the asteroid I can't help crying. The effects used are spectacular. I love every part of it, and no other movie of this type would ever outcome it!

Even though ARMAGEDDON had much more action than DEEP IMPACT, I still liked them pretty much equally. They both brought teardrops to my eye in the end. It reminds us that people sacrifice themselves so that we may live and prosper.

I like both Armageddon and Deep Impact but I chose Armageddon.
The reason being I like the scene when the father took the place of his daughter's partner and stayed on the rock. I also like the scenes in the space buggies.
