This is true !! It details what to do if an anaconda attacks you. Excerpt is from the US Government Peace Corps Manual for volunteers working in the Amazon Jungle.
Related to the boa constrictor, the anaconda is the largest snake species in the world. It grows to thirty-five feet in length and weighs 300 to 400 pounds.
1. If you are attacked by an anaconda, do not run. The snake is faster than you are.
2. Lie flat on the ground. Put your arms tight against your sides, your legs tight against one another.
3. Tuck your chin in.
4. The snake will begin to nudge and climb over your body.
5. Do not panic.
6. After the snake has examined you, it will begin to swallow you from the feet end - always from the feet end. Permit the snake to swallow your feet and ankles. Do not panic!
7. The snake will now begin to suck your legs into its body. You must lie perfectly still. This will take a long time.
8. When the snake has reached your knees, slowly and with as little movement as possible, reach down, take your knife and very gently slide it into the side of the snake's mouth between the edge of its mouth and your leg, then suddenly rip upwards, severing the snake's head.
9. Be sure you have your knife.
10. Be sure your knife is sharp. ;D

Like anyone would be able to be that calm in a situation like that... It depends on the person. I probably would remain calm, as would anyone else who has been in situations where staying calm is required.

Thats the thing, I'm pretty sure they go through some sort of training prior to going into the jungles in the peace corps.
My friend signed up and he didnt leave the country for over 6 months, so I assume that was his training period(which didnt count against the time he had signed up for)

Was this suggested by people who live around annacondas or "experts/officials"? If either case do you think either methods would differ?

I'm pretty sure the methods would line up with both. Most experts would probably get their advise from the people that deal with it on a daily basis.

If you read the first part of my first post, it says that this is an excert from the US Government Peace Corps Manual for volunteers working in the Amazon Jungle. So I assume, these people have experience in how NOT to get killed by an anaconda.

But thx for not majorlly owning me durring my mommentary lapse of reason when I made my last post.. heh But yea, now that I think about it all, that does sound about right for a peace corps manual.. I bet I couldn't be calm..... I would probably be too busy laughing my @$$ off because I can't beleive I'm holding still to let a snake poke and prod me all over, and then start to eat me alive from feet to muh head, and I'm not doing a single think about it...... lol. I would most definately be histerical person in the whole world.....

i have a problem with those instructions here is what i think
1. First lay on the ground and wait for the snake to get near you
2. As the snake trys ingests your foot wait untill he cant get his mouth off your foot then SMASH YOUR HEEL INTO HIS SKULL OVER AND OVER UNTILL HE DIES!!!!!!

What I would like to know is how they can be so certain the anaconda will always go for your feet first? Have they laid around and let themselves be partially eaten many a time. And what if it did go for your head, youd die and then you'd never get back to say, oh yes they do sometimes go for your head... it makes no sense
