We decided not to enable Karma on my forum. Same here. I saw what happened on the GOAYB site when Karma was enabled and felt that if, for example, one particular member was not liked by, say, another member, that member would take every opportunity to give the not-liked member a smite every time when it was possible to do so. So, a member with minus karma will probably feel a little insecure, and might even not want to come back to post, in fear of being rediculed or worse. I think we can do without Karma on our board, thank you very much. --- --- --- --- I have another question though. I have noticed that the "new" icons pop up quite often all of sudden, and in threads where no one has posted recently. Is this a bug or is V4 set to give you a "new" icon whenever a member only reads a thread? And has anyone else noticed that on their board?

I've enabled Karma here because there is a pretty good group of people here. I can't see any of us smiting another continiously for the hell of it, or to be a jerk. Besides, in the admin's security log, we can see who smites and exaults who. So if there is abuse, admin's will know.
As for the post indicators, Val, I have not. However, I have noticed that every once in a while all topics will be marked as read from the index page, then will go back to normal - showing me which topics are new to me. This is the first I have seen of that.

I've seen it on a couple boards after the v4 installation. I think it's a bug. I saw it on servers 2, 3, and 20.

lol, I agree
I like the karma personally, I don't think it should be that much of a problem. Though I did notice that on Zdesigns, they removed just smiting. The admin yelled at people to not disable javascript and go smiting anyways

LOL I still think it's better not to use it on my board. ;D And yes, there is definitely something different with the "new" icons. I know that before they came on after a certain time but now, they seem to come on even when people only read the thread but didn't post. It's a little annoying since I keep checking for new posts. Can you maybe report that, Myke?

I like having all those new icons there since you can click on them to get to the last post.

Wasn't quite his improvements. You have Patrick Clinger to thank for that. But let's all praise Kamel anyways. ;D

I have another question:
I just checked my board as "guest" to see what can and cannot be seen, and I noticed that the info in the "Last Post" is not showing for guests, unless someone posted "Yesterday".
Now, is that just the way V4 has been set up or did I do something so that guests can't see the "Last Post" info anymore (except that of "yesterday")?

Well I logged out here on TR and all the last post data showed up fine. Probably just a bad code on your board.

No, it can't be. I saw the same on other boards I viewed and when questioned, the admins of those boards said that this is what you can do now with V4, that guests can't see all the "Last Post" info. It's just that I haven't got a clue what I did so that this shows up like this...
