I'm nuetral i guess. I'm just waiting for people to be all like "i love star wars" when they know barely anything about it but have seen a epiode or two on t.v. I'll be upset when that happens. I can't make a comment i guess until i see it. I sort of wish they wouldn't as of right now because all the great games or movies or w/e gets made into stupid t.v. shows and / or over reviewed and it just ruins it. Star wars was amazing and i don't think it could add up to it so I think as of right now i am against the idea.

I'm looking forward to this series. Star Trek, The new Battlestar Galactica, Stargate SG-1, Atlantis, Farscape, The 4400, The X-Files, etc. has all proved that there can be excellent sci fi television.
Some of the new BSG, and some of the Star Trek episodes have been as good as any movies out there. Therefore I think this Star Wars series has the potential to be EXCELLENT. Whether it will be excellent or not, is will be left to be seen.
Now, I do not think this is going to be exactly like the movies, no more then the Stargate SG-1 was like the Stargate movie that came first. I think the Star Wars TV series is going to be different from the movie, as all TV series are different from movies. I think initially this is going to put off a lot of fans, but I think if the TV series has quality storylines, and people can get past the fact that this isn't the movies, and get past the fact that we're going to see more characters then the ones in the films, I think people will be able to enjoy it.
If they take the intense creativity that has been in the new BSG, the raw emotion and character development of BSG, the imagination of Star Trek, and the magic of Star Wars, and put this all together, I think we're in for a great series, and I'm really excited about it.
As for the argument of this may ruin the Star Wars legacy.. how? If it does turn out that it does suck, at least we still have the films, and at least we took a chance to continue Star Wars. Risks are always worth taking in my opinion.

It will definitely be a solid test of the quality of the Star Wars universe. Can it sustain the deep character definition required by a good television show? It is much easier to make a few big budget movies and fill in the story gaps with special effects than it is to create the volume of scripts and work within the budget constraints of television. Can Lucas put together and guide a writing team that can take the huge, sweeping story that is Star Wars and break it into enough tiny chunks to keep a series alive?
This will also be a test of Star Wars fans themselves. Can they put aside the fact they have been spoiled by such huge special effects and concentrate on a small screen story? Will they have the patience to wait week to week as small chunks of the story are fed to them? Or will they grow board by having to think and remember a plot for more than a couple of hours?
I have a feeling that if the series is a success, it will not be as a result of the dedicated Star Wars fan base (ie, the ones who bash ST). They will not have the patience, espeically if any real elements of science fiction are introduced. However, I think the series has a good chance to succeed, and will draw an audience from the rest of the science fiction fans, who will be happy to just have another show.

hmm thats a lot of questions lol.
i think the movies were too great to put into a t.v. show and i sorta think it is lame for trying. Thats like putting my favorite t.v. show (that 70s show) and putting it into a movie. that would be lame too.
BFD- i'm guessing you like Star Trek better?

There is a big difference between movies based on tv, and tv based on movies. The first type usually suck. But some of the greatest shows to ever air have been based on movies. Any diehard stargate fan will vouch for that. And you also have to consider that Buffy had a pretty nice run, and even Highlander did exceptionally well for a syndicated show. However the best example is one of the greatest tv shows of all times, all genres...MASH!!!
The fewfailed shows based on movies that I can think of were based on movies with a very limited story. Star Wars definitely does not suffer from that problem! So the chances of it being lame are pretty slim.
And yes, I do prefer Star Trek. But a major factor in the preference is that Star Wars has so little screen time. I can only watch six movies so many times before I get sick of it. If a well made series takes off, I would most likely get into it. Hopefully not all Star Wars fans will pass off a series as "likely lame"...

I think fans of Star Wars will have an easy time adjusting to the different stories of a series. If they like the movies and have seen other Sci Fi series they will understand the story line will have to change. I will enjoy watching this series to see how it does. Thanks for bringing my attention to it.

I liked Buffy, but never got into Angel. Roswell was pretty sweet though. Star Wars. The name alone says it all. It's one of the only series of movies I can watch a million times.
What Highlander series?
