who knows...maybe one day we will have colonies on some of these other planets....although none of them are really hospitable.....but maybe one day we will do terraforming like they were doing in the aliens movie.

I find that site very helpfull when I wanna look up something about space or planets.. its pretty good. and I think that Mukes theory on the thermal vents is very plausible. I hope there is life on Europa ...
And as far as colonies go.. Mars is sitting right there, just waiting for the kiss of life. it is primarily Carbon Dioxide which we all know is a prime component for photosynthesis, the other is sun light .. IF we find no things in the way such as subterainian life that would be ethicaly wronge to change the environment they had evolved in. BUt Plants and fertilizer would be all that we needed, and a source of water . build up the atmosphere through natural plant growth and it will help to protect the planet from solar waves thyat make it SOO bloody hot on the surface and supply oxygen ..I guess I should stop before I hit FULL babble mode..lol

That's not babbleing at all. I wonder just how long it would take to give Mars a complete, and human safe atmosphere though the technique you just proposed?

as far as I know mars surface temp gets way too cold for any kind of plant life to survive I think...I forget what the exact temp is but that could cause problems....

I think that hardy plants like Pine Trees, which also do well in sandier soils could survive the cold. Though they are not the optimal oxy makers like broad leaf plants are. But with what they are able to do with Genetics, they could come up with something that could with stand the temps I am sure, but that also brings out the ethical questions of 'playing God' with genetics.

Oh and Myke I agree with you on your thinking that Mars once sustained life, I think that they have found what they think are pollen grains.. I am going to do a search for that, if I find anything I will post the link.

When it comes to messing with plant genetics for something like this, i'm all for it. If it means us being able to colonize other planets, I think it's well worth it. If we could just colonize the Moon, or ecspecially Mars, and turn them into industrial planets/planatoids, then our space program would slingshot into the future. Imagine Mars being a lift off point If they really did find grain on Mars, that would be a HUGE discovery. I havent decided if I believe life originated from there, or if I believe life once existed there, as I dont have all of the facts, but I believe those two theories more then any other, so yes I believe it, w/out officially believing it, if that makes sence Back to plantiod bodies in our solar system beyond Pluto, I recieved an interesting article in my email this morning from Space.com about Sedna, and it's mysterious satalite, or lack thereof. .. . www.space.com/scienceastronomy/hubble_sedna_040414.html~Myke

great article.....I love it when the scientists who think they have everything figured out get baffled.....it's slightly amusing....guess we wait for more data now for them to analyze...

I read the article and got an idea for a story I may write on later..lol..but to stay on topic..I am going to do somem ore research on Sedna. I know its a realitivly new discovery but the thought that it could be somethying special due to its strangly slow rotation makes me think....ya know ?

Exactly It is quite the oddity, out there, drifting in the darkness of space. It's amazing, all of the new things they are still finding in our solar system alone, not to mention everything beyond that is waiting to me discovered! ~Myke
