Out of the three movies, which one do you like best and why?
I like the first movie better, mainly because of it being the first movie: it has all the original ideas, all the groundbreaking theories, all the amazing effects. As much as the producers tried, the other two move couldn't come to the same high level.
The second best of them is Revolutions: the plot twists were great. The battle scenes between men and machines are amazing, breathtaking because of the contrast between the force of the machines and the weakness of humans.
Reloaded, in my view, is something they shouldn't have made. I almost feel asleep during it. Many scenes were useless so they could have compiled the essential into Revolutions.

I have not seen any of them but the second looked good. And I think the second will still be the best after that car chase ;D

I have not seen any of them but the second looked good. And I think the second will still be the best after that car chase ;D The car was actually the part where I fell asleep. The best part of it would probably be the Tea House scene with Seraph and the Burly Brawl. The car scene was really useless in the movie. If you cut it out it wouldn't lose any logic. But from a technical point of view, it was brilliantly made and it needed a lot of hard work. I recall reading that they actually built that highway just to shoot the scene and that the scene itself took a lot to shoot.

Out of the trilogy I prefer the first movie by far. I can't really explain why I prefer this over the other two. It's probably got something to do with the first movie focusing more on Neo and development of his skills and him getting to learn about the Matrix. The original movie gives you so much information about the Matrix without over doing it. I really like how it ends. We think Neo is dead but he arises and kills Agent Smith.
I really dislike Matrix Reloaded. On the second one he can fly which is crazy. I always thought in the Matrix it was slightly similar to reality and you can't fly around. The scene on the free way was pretty good and those twin ghosts. The last film has some fairly good battle scenes. Those Armored Personnel Unit (APU) are cool. I wouldn't mind going in one. I think it's the best way to end the trilogy by Neo sacrificing himself.

The first and original movie.
Yes, the second two sort of brought everything together and full circle, but I think the first one can stand alone as a movie itself.
The others had some good points, but they seemed to be just overactive blockbusters, for the most point, while the first actually was more plot-based (even though it had a lot of action).

The first time I saw the first movie I thought that it was designed to be the one and only movie, and that they only made sequels because it was sucessful and people would have wanted to see more (and, of course, thy would have earned lots of money, as it happened). But in Revisited the W brothers state that it was build to be a trilogy from the very beginning. If they are right, I think they didn't design it too well as the first movie seems quite independent. I think it's the best way to end the trilogy by Neo sacrificing himself. Yes, the part where he can fly seems a bit exagerrated, mostly when Link says that Neo is "doing his Superman thing again". But I guess they "gave" Neo this ability to show how he is more powerful and how he is able to control the matrix to his own benefit. I had no idea that those things in Revolutions were called APU's, to my shame.

Yeah, I agree. The first one seems to stand alone. Oh well. If you ask my friend, she believes the second two films don't exist.

My vote goes for the original Matrix.
I liked the second movies, I know a lot of people didn't, and can understand why, but as an avid Star Trek fan I'm used to taking in a lot of information, so all of the new, and sometimes confusing plot information from the sequels was a positive thing for me. I remember discussing for hours about theories of what exactly the Architect meant.
But the first one is still my favorite, the two sequels seems like one long movie, but the original has a beginning, and an ending. It also introduces us into the world of the Matrix, and we're able to watch Neo grow from a nobody, to the only one who can kill an agent.

It basicaly holds the key to the trilogy. But still they could have just inserted that into a third movie and just forget about the other useless stuff in Reloaded

Useless as in the stupid orgy scene? That, the 20 minute long car chase, the fight scene at the Merovingian's castle...

I have only seen the 1st movie all the way through and I did enjoy it, I only saw half of the second movie and wasn't as captivated by it so haven't bothered to watch the rest, my son has all three movies and loves them but he too prefers the 1st.
