Terminator 4 is all systems go, but will Arnold Schwarzenegger be back, or is it hasta la vista, baby? Schwarzenegger is kind of busy these days, you know, running the state of California, but Variety reports that he may still return in a cameo. Sources tell Variety that the screenplay (by Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines screenwriters John Brancato and Michael Ferris) will feature a new model cyborg as its antihero.
T3 producers Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar and financier Intermedia expect to rehire T3 director Jonathan Mostow to shoot the fourth movie next year. It's not clear if T3 stars Nick Stahl and Claire Danes will return, but maybe producers can build robot stars to replace them.

Any idea what the story idea is? Humanity rebuilding in Post-Apocolyptic Earth perhaps? the non-functional remains of the T-800 found and something close but not as advanced created by the remants of the AI?
Sounds likes it's going to be a restart of the nightmare that the first three films were:
T1 - Attempt to alter history/attempt prevented but causes changes anyway;
T2 - Attempt to alter history again/prevented once again and attempt to prevent that future from happening is made;
T3 - Seemingly rosey time where the future still happens, and delayed Armaggeddon occurs/leads to new delayed Armaggeddon? or strained but needed coexistence with the machines?
Just my opinion, but they probably shouldn't make a T4. They capped things nicely with T3, so why mess with it?

I actually have wanted to see a movie based on the future myself.
T3 just started the war, now lets see how John becomes the leader of the resistance in the future. THere is a ready made plot, John survives with the wife in the bunker and after a few weeks or months emerges to band together a bunch of survivors to fight back against the machines, mean while Skynet sends another Terminator to try and kill him right at the beginning of the movement.
The rumor currently going around is that Arnold pre-picked Dwayne Johnson(AKA WWE's the Rock) to be his replacement, and Johnson said if asked, he would do it.

I think T-4 is going to be the actual war itself.....maybe it will the the climax of the war....where either man or skynet finally wins....its possible they could fast forward to the end of the war.

I'd like to see this movie too, and like you guys, I want to see the war. The have a chance here to do something compelty new with the Terminator movies, as opposed to it just being a machine sent back to wipe out the existence of John conner. They can have a whole new forumula here, and compelty get away with it.
If T3 was the end, then they ended too early, as the war still happens, and we do not know what the final result is, machine or man, which one is the winner? I would like for the Terninator story to finally come to a close before they decide to stop making the films, to give us some closure on the story.
I also wouldnt mind seeing The Rock in it, given they use him in a fitting way, and don't make him seem like he is sticking out. But The Rock is a good actor in my opinion, he is good at adapting to his fit in his roles, just like Swartchnegger was,

I'd like to see a part of the war, and the ending of it would be a good conclusion to all the movies ..... as if they are going to do that ..... lol. My only fear is too much technology will be used and not enough human actors ....

If they dont have much humans in it, that would fit the storyline perfectly as supposedly 5 billion died on Judgement day, so that would only leave 1 billion people scattered throughout the world the day after(remember China and India have over 1 Billion each, while the US has only 390 million).
So if there are only so few humans remaining, with some as slaves according to the first movie, then few humans would be perfect. In every Terminator movie, when they showed the future, the most humans ever seen at any one time was probably a hundred at most.

Yep, just a platoon or so struggeling for thier survival against the machines.
I wonder what the plot will be. If they go back in time before the war, to try and stop it again, I'm going to be majorly disapointed. Surely not though, as even John Conner himself admitted that there was no way they could have ever stopped the war, that his mother was wrong.

I could live with seeing a few humans battling it out ... no probs .... just worried about way over the top with the non-humans although I realise this is what Skynet is about, a nice storyline would make the movie a treat ... but I can't see them just stopping at number 4. .....

I think it will depend on how well part 4 does. I honestly didn't expect a part 4 to be made, but I can see them making it so the story comes to an end, but with a door left open for it to continue, in case it does weel enough to warrent a 5th one.

#4 could start the war(starting shortly after #3 ended) and show the humans struggling to not only survove the machines, but finding food/water etc and having a few skirmishes with the machines here and there, showing John's rise to lead the humans, after seeing so many getting wiped out, he uses what his mother had taught him over the years to start plotting how to end the war. Skynet could send in Terminators(remember in the first movie Reese mentioned they tried to assassinate John in the future, by using terminators that look human and only dogs could tell), and could end right around the time that John would send Reese back to save his mother in the first movie.
#5 would pick up right after #4 ended and it continues to show the humans struggling but almost winning the war against the machines and they have amassed a huge army of humans to wage one final battle(so they think) to finally end the war, and this one ends when John send the reprogrammed terminator back to save himself as a 13 yr old in #2.
#6 could end the series once and for all, it picks up right after #5 and shows how John is killed in the future(set in #3) and how his wife reprograms his model(as stated in #3) and sends him back to preserve them both, but they also realize that they only needed him to survive, so they dont have to focus on that very long, but then they wage the one final battle against the machines.
Of course that would be great to me, as it would tie in all 3 of the first movies perfectly with what has already been stated in the 3 movies(unlike another director who butchered his own trilogy), and also would appease the fans who want to see something concerning the war. Filming it would be easy to do, as they could simply copy LOTR and Matrix 2 and 3 and film all three at once and then go back and edit the others while the other is in the theaters still.

I actually think thats a good idea mike, and I like the novelty of it too - the first trilogy being in present time, and the second trilogy being set in post Judgment Day Earth, after the war between Skynet and the Human Resistance has started.!!

Also it would fit the movies perfectly as it would tie in each movie with the perfect endings.
#4 would end when the machines and humans both send their respective people back in time the first time.
#5 would start a few years later and show that they had not succeeded in changing time the first time, then find out that they had another time machine somewhere and have to rush to get the Terminator reprogrammed to send him back yet again.
#6 would end it.
Besides I really wanna see one of those things that sent them back in time really bad. I wanna see how huge they are and whether the operators from the future can see the past when they are being transported.
