I think we discussed this in another thread somewhere...maybe spiderman? not sure...but I found out they are actually filming a Fantastic 4 movie....which is great! here is the info...the only thing I can't see is Brendan fraser playing Redd Richards....I always thought he was a little older....like in his 40's or something....but i could be wrong....either way this sounds like a great movie if the cast is as per the following news...
IGN Film Force reported a rumor that Brendan Fraser may take on the role of Mr. Fantastic in the upcoming Fantastic Four feature film based on the Marvel comic-book series. A source close to the production told the site that Fraser is in the running to play elastic hero Reed Richards, although no official casting has taken place.
Several other actors have been rumored to be attached to the project, including Michael Chiklis (The Shield) as The Thing, Paul Walker (The Fast and the Furious) as Johnny Storm and Tim Robbins as the villainous Dr. Doom. Barbershop director Tim Story will helm the film based on a script by Mark Frost (Twin Peaks). Fantastic Four begins shooting in Vancouver, B.C., in August for release in the summer of 2005.

I knew they had been planningit, but didnt know they were actually goingto go through with it.
I really dont know if it will be a success or not.
I think Thunderbirds will really decide that

Fantastic 4 is one of marvels longest running comic series though and has much better characters....if they make it with a decent budget and effects it should be a block buster. Richard Reed..the elastic man...invisible woman...the human torch....The thing...dr doom....i would go see this movie in a heartbeat.,...I LOVED the FF4 as a kid...amazing comics!

but will a live action movie translate as well?
Remember DareDevil was expected to be huge, yet it wasn't
Comic book based movies have got to be very careful when going to live action, because if it fails, it could hurt the franchise as a whole

yes....many have been flops...but..X-men and spiderman went live successfully...and the punisher was mildly successful....i just hope its not a b-movie which wont be worth seeing. if they can make it like x-men it will be great.

Hey Wolf, did you ever see that low-budget, cheesy version of the FF that came out in the early to mid-Nineties? It was live action, which really shocked me. Marvel, or the Film Company decided never to release it in theatres for some reason. Having seen it, I can say it was total crap, but it was hilarious to watch. They released some boot leg copies on VHS at my local comic book shop in 1995 or 96, I think.
I hope the new version is way better! I just can't see Brendan Fraser playing Reed. Fraser seems like more the type to play the Human version of Ben Grimm. I don't see Fraser as tall or skinny enough to play Reed. But we'll see how it turns out.

I have heard of that version of the FF but have never seen it. I just hope they don;t decide to low ball this version and make it something they regret making later on. They are all great characters. The Thing used to have fistfights with the hulk all the time, he was indestructible..the human torch was awesome....Fraser just doesnt seem old enough to play Reed IMO I always thought he was older. I definitely don't see him as Ben grimm either. Dr. Doom could be one of movies all time villains if they do him right. i am hoping they will not mess this up.

If they play it off like Spiderman and X-Men it could work, but for some reason I just do not se it working though.
The main reason I say that is the Thing will have to be CGI'd, which normally is no big deal, but if they film it like they did Hulk, then they will have probs because Hulk just looked cheesy on the screen.

You gotta admit, the Hulk was the most realistic version of the Green Goliath we've ever seen on a screen EVER! I was actually very skeptical going into the film about the fact that he was completely CGI rendered. I walked away pleasantly surprised.
With a film like Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, I was expecting a certain level of quality, and it was delivered. But with the Hulk, I really wondered whether they could pull off mixing live action with a completely CGI character. I personally thought it was fantastic.
Speaking of Fantastic, search the Internet Movie Database for Fantastic Four, and click on the 1994 Version to see info for the cheesy film I spoke of above.
As for the comic book, I guess I started reading the FF around issue 287. That's back when She-Hulk was with the group. I stayed with it until Issue 370-something where Johnny found out he was married to a Skrull and all hell broke loose.
As a kid, the FF was my favorite comic. They took trips to the Negative Zone, The Beyonder's World, Atlantis, inside the Cosmic Cube, Galactus's ship, Doom's Castle in Latveria, etc. etc. Basically, in the Marvel Universe, they did it all. There are tons of possibilities for a "Fantastic" story for the movie. I doubt Hollywood can get these characters right though. Spidey was easy. Dorky Kid + Radioactive Spider = Instant Coolness. Add the hot red head next door, a best friend, and a psycho best friend's dad, and you've got a winning combination.
With the FF, it's Scientist, Girlfriend, Girlfriend's hot-headed little Bro, and Scientist's best bud from college going up in a rocket ship and being pelted by "cosmic rays." Scientifically, the premise just doesn't fly anymore. It was great in 1963, but it lacks scientific accuracy now that we have more knowledge of cosmic rays.
For a great update to the FF's story, as well as Spider-Man and the X-Men, go to your local comic book shop and pick up Marvel's "Ultimate Fantastic Four." Pick up "Ultimate Spider-Man" and "Ultimate X-Men" as well. Basically the Ultimates Series takes old characters, puts them in a completely fresh environment starting from their origins, and updates them for a more intelligent audience.
For the FF, Reed and Ben were friends in Jr. High, and High school. Reed built a device to send objects into another realm, and was discovered by a group of scientists headquartered in the Baxter Building who were working on the same thing. A portal to the "N-Zone." (All us old FF Fans remember it as Annihilus's Home, the Negative Zone.) A few years pass and Reed and Dr. Storm, father of Sue and Johnny, are working on testing a huge N-Zone Portal. Ben Grimm finds his way onto the Govmnt Base since he's in the Army and uses his pass to get in to see Reed who he hasn't seen in a year or two. Needless to say, an accident occurs because Victor Van Damme (I'm sure after the accident, he'll be horribly disfigured and change his name to Von Doom), Reed's partner, was impatient and modified some of Reed's Calculations. So, Reed, Johnny, Sue, Ben, and Victor are thrown into the N-Zone and seemingly lost. Until they start appearing all over the globe with these wierd powers.
The military finds them all, except Sue, and **dramatic pause** Victor. Then the Mole Man attacks and 3 of the 4 go into action.
It's pretty wild and If you like the FF I highly recommend checking them out. Wolf, THIS MEANS YOU! LOL! You'll love it, trust me!
Sorry for the long post. Just went off on another rant here.

LOL...I haven't read any FF stuff since i was a kid.....i might have to check out the updated version.....and I think u could actually do the thing with makeup and stuff. after seeing hellboy and what they did with ron perlman i think u could do the things rocky orange body with costume and makeup....and if Michael chiklis is really going to do the part....i think he would be very good in it...the thing is.....you wouldnt see him as is for very long.....he would be in makeup almost the whole time....unless they did away with him having his body that way permanently and went the cheesy way and had it as a suit as they did when he lost his powers in the comics.

Wolf brought up a great point. Hellboy was great because it wasn't entirally CGI.
Thats what hurt Hulk to me, it was 100% CGI, and it was just cheesy because was no character depth in the character. Thats what made Hellboy great, they had Perlman speaking and his facial features fit the scenes and drew you in, uinlike Hulk where everything was created for it, and it just didnt draw you in.
F4 could be a potential blockbuster if they do it correct. Sure it will be special effects laden, but if they do it right, it will come across great on screen.
And rest assured, if they do indeed make this movie, the corny version spoken of earlier will make its debut on the pay channels as well. It always happens like that

I used to watch the FF cartoons on saturday mornings when I was a kid.. can't wait to see if the movie is any good. As far as the Hulk went, I thought the CGI was good, though they got way off of what i thought the story was suposed to be. Is that how it went in the comics?

Fans of Marvel's ''Fantastic Four'' may have been casting the movie version of the superhero saga in their heads for more than 40 years; now, 20th Century Fox has taken a crack at it. Variety and the Hollywood Reporter have confirmed the long-rumored signing of ''Shield'' star Michael Chiklis to play Ben Grimm, a.k.a. The Thing, the rough-hewn clobberer whose body is made of orange rock. The trade papers say that Fox has also signed Ioan Gruffudd (currently onscreen as Lancelot in ''King Arthur'') as team leader Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic, who can stretch his limbs like Silly Putty. ''The Perfect Score'''s Chris Evans will play Johnny Storm, a.k.a. the Human Torch, who can set himself aflame and manipulate fire.
As for the fourth member of the quartet -- Sue Storm, a.k.a. Invisible Girl, sister to Johnny and wife to Reed Richards -- it's down to a handful of hotties, led by ''Dark Angel'''s Jessica Alba. Other names that have been dropped are ''The Notebook'' star Rachel McAdams and ''Felicity'''s Keri Russell.
The Fantastic Four gained their powers as astronauts whose ship was bombarded with cosmic rays. Once transformed, the film foursome will find themselves fighting Dr. Doom, the Darth Vader-like megalomaniac who is the dictator of a country called Latveria.
Tim Story (''Barbershop'') will direct the film, making the leap to big-budget spectacles. He and the studio had better round up an Invisible Girl pretty fast, since Fox has scheduled the movie for release on July 1, 2005, the same holiday weekend that saw Marvel's ''Spider-Man 2'' set box office records this year. Meanwhile, we're sure that fans will have plenty to say about the casting, perhaps starting with Gruffudd, who seems a tad young to play the gray-templed Richards. Let the sniping and second-guessing begin.
All I have to say is....hmmmm....interesting choices....will be hard for me to see a guy that young playing reed richards but who knows....and jessica alba as the invisible girl? Please don;t let them be picking her just cause she looks good....she better be able to act for this part..

As far as the Hulk went, I thought the CGI was good, though they got way off of what i thought the story was suposed to be. Is that how it went in the comics? As for your question about the Hulk, The comics were very different. Scientist Bruce Banner was working for the military on a "Gamma Bomb" weapon in the New Mexico Desert. Teenager Rick Jones drives out onto the test range on a dare. Bruce sees him through binoculars and rushes out to the test range to save him. Unfortunately the countdown to test the weapon has already begun and just as Bruce pushes Rick into a trench, and safety, the gamma bomb explodes and Bruce is bombarded with massive amounts of gamma radiation. Whenever he becomes enraged, nervous, excited, and scared, the gamma radiation powers his cells and transforms him into a monstrous being known as the Hulk. Originally, for the first few issues, the Hulk was still relatively intelligent. He could speak, and understand. He was also grey in color, NOT GREEN! Over the years the Hulk has taken many forms. The Original Grey, The Mindless Green, The Highly Intelligent Grey, and most recently, A Massive Green Hulk Body that also is controlled by Bruce Banner's Mind and Personality.
