Strangly enough, in 1998 two movies came out basically about the same thing. We have Armageddon with Bruce Willis and Deep Impact with Morgan Freeman.
Which one of the two did you like better, and why?

I voted for Armageddon based on the fact that it was more special effects laden than Deep Impact was.
I also did not like how MSNBC was a sponsor of Deep Impact either(but it did help MSNBC gain acceptance as a news organization though).
But as far as plot and what if's. Deep Impact I feel would be more relaistic than Armageddon was, but when it comes to plot and what if's in moviews, I prefer movies that have the anti-climatic scenes at the end that I will never forget, so When Bruce Willis died at the end of Armageddon, I'll never forget it, same thing as when he finally gave AJ permission to marry his daughter. Unlike Deep Impact wherre you just knew that the entire crew was gonna commit suicide at the end halfway through the movie when they blew up the asteroid, but instead of it disintegrating, it broke into two pieces and they followed it back home.
Also Armageddon had better effects for the asteroids hitting the Earth unlike DEep Impact when the only thing they showed was the Tsunami's.
Incidentally, Entertainment Weekly said that Armaggedon was better than Deep Impact as well.

I've seen them both, but I can rememer very little from Deep Impact, almost nothing. I think that answers the question which one is better.

I have to agree with all of you, Armageddon was the superiour film here, in almost every aspect. Mike makes some good points above as well.
Plus Armageddon had all the elements of a good stroy, drama, comedy, science fiction, actions, saddness, suspense, ect.

Besides who here wouldn't want to play with the high tech gun like that one guy did on the asteroid in Armageddon? I would have done the same thing There wasn't any real "bonding" in Deep Impact that I can recall, the crew kinda came together at the end to decide to fly into the asteroid because "they already have schools named after them now", unlike Armageddon, where they were bonded before the movie started and that made it easier to follow

Yes I agree, they were more close, and we all pretty much family before.
And you gotta love Steve Bucemi in that movie, lol. He was suicidal in the end, I wonder if he was left behind to detonate the Nuke like he wanted, if he would have actually went through with it or onw?

For effects and story, Armageddon all the way. For realism, Deep Impact. Then again, movies like this aren't watched for realism are they?

Then again, movies like this aren't watched for realism are they? ya know..I once had a theory that the gov had a hand in the movies.. like they would tell certain movie companies to make films to test the reactions of people or to get them semi-ready for something.. I know its weird but it was a crazy idea I had one day..lol. Makes you wonder about A LOT of 'what if's' doesn't it ?..lol.

I heard rumors that the US Government, and the US Military was offering assistance in 'Independence Day' to as military techinical directors, or something, but when they discovered the plans for the Area 51 scene, they told the producers to cut that scene out, or they would withdraw from the project, and not help out anymore.
That one right there made me wonder, and go "Hmmmmm"

Doesn't really surprise me. Save their own skins first before considering which people aside from those in the government to save. A bit pessimestic perhaps, but probably truer then I care to know.

Actually what is funny, is that NASA helped on things with Armageddon, but not on Deep Impact. And yes Myke, the Government was going to assist with Independance Day, but when Area 51 was mentioned they "politely" asked it be renamed. They never wanted it to be removed, just the name changed from Area 51 to " a secret hidden location" and have had scientists already working on a dead alien that had been shot down somewhere else and brought there. Rolen Emmerich politely told the Govt NO That makes me wonder why they still deny it to this date, when everyone and their mother knows area 51 exists.
