[Hoping this is the right place...] Anyway, I didn't find any threads to discuss the Dune series of books, and thought I'd put a topic up. I just finished reading the last (the seventh book) of the original series. The last book was divided into two novels, based on outlines and manuscripts from Frank Herbert. Brian Herbert, his son, wrote it along with Kevin J. Anderson. Either way... I think it is a great series. It's a lot deeper than other sci-fi novels and series, in my opinion. There is so much going on and things in there could be taken so many different ways. Along with the main "7" book series, there are also prequels that Brian Herbert and Anderson have written as well. I have not yet gotten to them, but will soon. The main Dune series by Frank Herbert: -Dune -Dune Messiah -Children of Dune -God Emperor of Dune -Heretics of Dune -Chapterhouse: Dune -Hunters of Dune and Sandworms of Dune (book 7) Prequels: -House Atreides -House Harkonnen -House Corrino Before the prequels: -The Butlerian Jihad -The Machine Crusade -The Battle of Corrin For more information.

I've read the original series by Frank Herbert all the way up to Chapterhouse, and I must admit I love the books. I haven't read any of the new ones though, with Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert.
My first experience with Mr. Anderson's work comes in the form of "The Last Days of Krypton" which chronicles the events that led up to the destruction of Kal-El's (Superman's) homeworld. It mostly centers on his mother, Lara Lor-Van, father, Jor-El, Aunt and Uncle, and General Zod. Some of the names of the major characters like Ursa and Nor have been changed, but the characters are still there, and well intact as we have come to know them.
If you ever wanted to know what happened on Krypton before they shot that rocket to Earth, I suggest you read this book. I'm only halfway finished with it, and I can already tell you, it's FANTASTIC!!
