Let's have a look back on season one of the new Battlestar Galactica. I thought it was pretty good.
The very idea of the show appeals to me, since I like my science fiction dark, and imaginitive. The Cylons decalre war on te humans of Caprica, and basically almost wipe out an entire species.
As Colonial fleet escapes into space, they pick up a rider, Dr. Baltar.
Dr. Baltar has to be my favorite character so far. That poor guy never meant to be involved in any of this, and yet he indirectly allowed the Cylons to have as much power in their first attack, as they did. He has a Cylon stuck in his mind, who is making his life a living hell, brainwashing. What makes it worse, Baltar knows this and can do nothing about it. He really does have the weight of the world on his shoulders.
We have the whole thing betweem Starbuck, Captain Adama, and Apollo. Those three are a dysfunctional reality TV family waiting to happen. Adama loves both his soon, and Starbuck who is like a daughter, to the point he would almost put the entire fleet into jeapordy to save them. Starbuck and apollo could be more then like brother and sister, if they'd ever stop for a moment to realize it.
You also have to love the rebel nature of Starbuck as well. She is a great pilot, and intelligent woman, but seems to live for the moment, which can be both good, and bad at the same time.
Then we have Madam President Roslin. Like Baltar, she carries the weight of the world on her shouders. She was a simple school teacher, her world was destroyed, her government slaughtered, and now she finds her not only the president, but dying of cancer at the same time. You can almost see that weight, and that saddness in her eyes when you watch her.
Obviously there are so many other good characters, and good situations like Helo in Caprica, or the Cylon Boomer on Galactica.
I guees my point is these characters has been given to us perfectly. We know so much about every single one so far, that the character development in upcoming seasons is going to be amazing. We are really going to care about them. For example, I am almost worried about Adama since Boomer sot him, and shot him two good times.
I think season one was pretty damn good for a pretty damn good show.
I'm wondering, what are your guys thoughts on season 1?
