I watched this movie again last night, but I had so many things to say that it would have made a pretty long post for the Last Movie thread I think I realized that I love this movie more than the first Batman. I just *love* the scene when Bruce and Selena realize who they really are. And the scene when Batman tries to convince Catwoman to go with him made me cry a little. I never realized how powerful their feelings were for each other until now. It made me feel sorry that at the respective time they didn't continue the movies along that line so we could see if The Catwoman would cross Batman's way again. Also, it got me thinking about the recent speculations that the sequel to The Dark Knight might introduce Catwoman in the story. I think it would be an awful idea. Batman returns showed their relationship and their chemistry at a very high level, I doubt they could possibly reach up to it, no matter who they'd cast as Catwoman or how they'd write the story. I hope they just leave the fans with the memories of the older version. A funny thing I noticed, and I wonder if anyone else did: in the scene when Selena talks to Shreck at the office (when he discoveres she's been reading his secret files), her glasses cast a shadow on her face which looks like the shape of her future cat mask

Ooh I need to watch this again! I love this one, but surprisingly not many people do, and give it flak. (Yet compared to the Schumacker films that followed it's positively brilliant.)
The scene with the dance and realising each other's identity is my favourite scene as well! Great moment. Another favourite bit is when Selina/Catwoman keeps advanced despite the repeated shooting in the body and the whole 9 lives thing, "Four, Five, Still Alive!.. Six, Seven, All good kitties go to heaven.."
I don't know how I feel about Batman ripping his mask of, there was a lot of hoo-hah about that. But Prehaps because he knew the guy was going probably about to die Wayne/Batman didn't care?

My order of prefference about them has always been identical to the order in which they were made, but now I think I like Returns more than the first movie. A weird romance is better than Joker's vengeance. I love the shooting part too. I wonder if she survived the electrocution because she had still 2 lives left. I mean, it looked impossible for anyone to survive that. I think that Batman wasn't really too careful about his identity, I mean after all he didn't really seem to be bothered when Alfred let Vicky Vale in the Batcave. But I also think that he was genuinely so in love and so concerned about what Selena wanted to do, that he didn't even care that Shrek would see him, he hoped that if he spoke to her as Bruce, he would appeal to her soft side and make her change her mind.

Batman and Batman Returns still hold up well in my opinion. Of all the original Batman movies, these two are by far the best. Michelle Pfieffer was Pfenomenal in the movie, and Michael Keaton was a great choice for the part of Bruce Wayne. It might not be in the same league as Batman Begins or The Dark Knight, but Batman Returns is a fantastic film in its own right.

With Keaton, I felt he was a very choice as Batman, even after the first Burton film. I thought he was able to pull off the two sides well as Bruce and Batman and being troubled by what he did, something that was vastly lacking with Clooney and Kilmer.
What about penguin? There was a lot of hoo-hah at the time over him as well, more specifically the way he looked ala Burton. I didn't hate it or love it, I had no opinion really. I suppose if your living down a sewer eating fish all your life though as depicted in this movie anyway, you've going to look a bit deformed. I don't think it was too deformed to the point of looking like a B-movie monster though.
