Wow...40 years? Amazing. Gene Rodenberry, in his wildest dreams, could not have foreseen what a sensation he created when that first episode aired 40 years ago. Not only is the universe he created still the setting of some great stories, many aspects of the series and characters have become an integral part of western culture. How could the writer of the line "Beam me up, Scottie" have known how many times those lines would be repeated during everyday life? Or the writer of the line "I'm a doctor, not an engineer?" So, despite the mistakes I feel that Rodenberry made with the series (such as the "no multiple episode stories" policy), I offer a posthumous salute: Well done. The Star Trek franchise is perhaps the greatest fictional settings ever created.

I watched an hour-and-a-half long documentary the other day called: Trekkies. The actors from TOS were giving comments, and they showed parts of conventions.
They were also showing items that used to be fantasy, like the communicator that flipped open when they wanted to talk to each other, and said that mobile (cell) phones derive from that idea.

I'm not sure what the networks are going to do here. I've been so busy for the past 2/3 days I haven't had my TV on once. Spike TV airs a lot of TOS movies, so they may play them all. Seeing as I think I have nothing to do tomorrow/today, I think I may just lay on the couch and watch them.
