Hi im fairly new to star trek, so i dont know much about it at all.
Anyway i was watching a TNG episode today, and i has Scotty from TOS on it. He went into a room that looked like the original enterprise, then later said it was just a computer generated image? WTF?
So, is the Enterprise on TNG the one from TOS as well, or did they get a new ship?
and why was their a computer image of the original enterprise?

Hi im fairly new to star trek, so i dont know much about it at all. Anyway i was watching a TNG episode today, and i has Scotty from TOS on it. He went into a room that looked like the original enterprise, then later said it was just a computer generated image? WTF? So, is the Enterprise on TNG the one from TOS as well, or did they get a new ship? and why was their a computer image of the original enterprise? They are not the same ship. The ship from The Original Series with Kirk was the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 The Ship that Picard commands in TNG is the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D So Kirk's ship was the Enterprise, and Picards was the Enterprise D Over the course of time, ships get replaced by better ships, or are destroyed and replaced. So as at the time of TNG there have been 6 ships to bare the name' Enterprise'; Enterprise NX-01 (Experiential warp ship 80 years before Kirk's time) Enterprise (Kirk's Ship) Enterprise A Enterprise B Enterprise C Enterprise D (Picards ship) We also see an Enterprise E in the TNG movies, but you have to watch Star Trek Generations movie to find out why. ;D As for the bridge Scotty was seeing, he was seeing that on a holodeck. A holodeck is basically a computer generated environment, that used light and forcefields to create an artificial environment. You can create anything in a holodeck, a starship bridge, a pasture with horses, a city, etc. So Scotty was seeing an artificial hologram re-creation of the original Enterprise bridge. The real original Enterprise is long gone by now (Watch Star Trek III The Search for Spock to see why). Here is some more info on Holodecks: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodeck
