I have just watched the episode "In the Pale Moonlight". I loved this episode and it is now one of my favorites. I loved how Garak tricked everyone, even Sisko, about how to bring the Romulans into the war with the Dominion. I wasn't really surprised that this worked because Garak's plan was very well thought of. I think that this episode clearly showed that there is cheating on both sides of war and all characters have a dark side.
What do you think?

I agree, this was an excellent episode...and one I need to watch again. It definitely shows the selfishly human side to the characters, which is what set DS9 apart from the previous Trek series.

I think this episode is a perfect example of the quality of DS9, and like BFD said, sets DS9 apart from all other episodes. This is when I truly realized the depth of Garek, and realized the realistic portrayal of true war in the Dominion War.
I think Ronald D Moore was responsible for this episode, the same guy who is currently producing the outstanding Battlestar Galactica series.

I just rewatched this one two times between Friday night and yesterday. Absolutely brilliant...probably one of the top trek episodes of all time, IMO. Telling the story as a personal log entry immediately raises your suspicion that something big is going on. Sisko's decision to manufacture the evidence, springing a criminal from a death sentence, then bribing Quark to cover for the counterfeiter...all a brilliant setup for the realization that Garek had set him up to go even further. I love how Sisko charges into Garek's shop, and knocks him around...and Garek breaks it all down to the cost of safety in the Alpha quadrant being the lives of a Romulan senator, a criminal and the self respect of one Starfleet officer...

Your spoiler info is dead on the money. I agree with it 100% and agree that it is one of the top Trek episodes of all time. I was about on the edge of my seat when watching it, as up until that point I had never seen a Star Trek episode so, hmm, what's the word I'm looking for here?

I love how at the end of it all that Sisko says something aloing the lines of, "If I had to I would do it all again, I can live with this decision" and I love how Garak says 'I did what you couldn't bring yourself to do" basically, as in I did the dirty work you didn't want to soil your hands with. On a side note....I was watching Hellraiser the other night and happened to realize halfway through the movie that the Kirsty's father is the guy who played Garak in DS9.....I caught it in his eyes and the tone of his voice he was using. I watched the rest of the movie seeing Garak instead of the actor in the role

I haven't seen Hellraiser II since I was a kid, but it's been on TV a lot lately, next time it's on I'll look for him.
I wonder if Garak could be credited for the victory over The Dominion? I mean who knows what would have happened if the Romulans didn't get involved in the war.

I'll have to watch season seven before I can comment on that...and hopefully that will be within a week or two, since I have just been informed my DVD set is about to ship...
