So, at least in America, there's a commercial for an HDTV in which modern-day Shatner is CG-ed into an ol dStar Trek clip, and talks about how all the crew needs to just enjoy the view outside the ship instead of worrying about the enemy ship that is coming towards them. Then he said that anything else "would just be...illogical. Wait, I can't use that line?"
From somebody that's not a Star Trek fan, I really want to know what the "illogical" thing is all about.

The in-joke is that 'illogical' was Spock's line in the original series. Spock is a Vulcan, and the entire Vulcan races way of thinking revolves around logic, as opposed to emotion as they are basically a species w/out emotion. So logic plays a part into every decision they make, no matter how small. Therefore if Spock rejected an idea, or didn't understand something, he would simply state "illogical". This became his catch phrase basically, and therein lies the joke of Shatner using it in the commercial.

Ah, ok. That was one of two possible conclusions I came up with (the other being that logic is meaningless in Star Trek-land. Now I can rest in peace. Gotta love the music, though. The score from Star Trek: The Motion Picture is the only thing I own about the franchise.

One one hand I'm like "OK.... not quite a full-length movie but it's still entertaining"
On the other... "WTF are they thinking about? Pimping a good movie all because of corporate greed"
Or is it just a wierd attempt to convert people into Trekkies, in which case I'm down with it.

I don't think they are trying to convert anyone into Trekkies. They're just using something famous to promote their service much like Direct TV used celebrities and scenes from movies similar to the Trek commercial to promote their service.

I doubt Lucas will allow Star Wars to be pimped out for Direct TV though it would be kinda funny maybe seeing the scene from Empire where Luke finds out Vader is his father and gets his hand cut off....seeing Vader saying something like "Luke, did you know if you had Direct TV you could have been at home watching the Bantha fights instead of having your hand chopped off." or something silly like that.
