Riker had a chance during the series to become a Captain of his own ship.
If he had left, who do you think who of been Captain Picard's first officer.
I would say Troi or Data. My vote goes to Data though, due to him being more a commanding officer.

I would say Data too probably, there were not a lot of other bridge officers who were getting a lot of actual command training and experience. I think Troi was too raw to become a first officer, during TNG she hadn't even taken the class yet to become a command officer until that episode where she had to send Geordi in to die during the training exercise.

I think Worf stood an equally good chance. He had both experience, perspective, tactical knowledge and leadership skills. Not to mention he understood the passions that drive people to either excell or conquer, something Data was forever striving to figure out.

I wouldn't of thought you would be because I don't think he fully understood how Starfleet worked. Being a Klingon he may of suggested ideas that would have destroyed them and brought him honor. Who would of replace the secruity officer?

Has to be Data, he's all Star Fleet, plus other than Jean Luc Picard himself he was my fave of the command crew.

It seems Data is a favourite among us. Although hes the ideal Starfleet officer, not all would like him being in command. On TNG he took command of a vessel to try uncover the Romulans cloaking device. His first officer wasn't too happy with all his decisions though.

I actually wouldn't say Data. I just think he'd be a bit too practical in the job, a bit too, how shall i say? Logical? That said i can't say Troi would be ideal and although Worf could do it i don't think you could ever fully tame a klingon, Starfleet or not. Worf would be a very close second but i think Geordi could, if he wanted too.

Whoever it would be, I doubt it would be Troi. She wasn't even a commissioned officer until halfway through the series. Remember Riker had to give her a test for her to become a bridge officer, so she's still be a long way from becoming a first officer.

Well I would defiantly rule out La Forge. Even if he was offered the position I doubt he would accept at the moment. I just think he would want to stay in Engineering.

I think he would really take Scotty's advice to remain a chief engineer in Relics. I also can't ever see Picard accepting the position of Admiral for the same reason, his place is in the captain's chair on the bridge, just as Geordie's place is in Engineering (although according to one alternate timeline in Voyager, LaForge was a captain).

Well if I was Picard I wouldn't have chosen anyone from the list. I don't think they have enough experience.
Yeah I remember that episode. That was when Chakotay and Harry wanted to alter the future because Voyager didn't make it home.
Didn't Kirk in Generations tell Picard to stay in the Captain's seat too?

He sure did, I forgot about that, but remembered where Scotty told the same to LaForge. I don't think any of them were experienced enough either, to be honest. I'm also not even sure Worf was back on the Enterprise, I think he was just there to catch a ride back from the Riker/Troi wedding. And besides, he was said no never be allowed to have a command position again.

If the Enterprise didn't arrive in First Contact then Worf along with the crew and ship would be no more. "Prepare for ramming speed!" I think he's too Klingon to be a first officer.
Yeah I remember the episode with Scotty.
