Robbie Stamp, producer of the film version of Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, told SCI FI Wire that Adams himself wrote new material for the film before he died in 2001. "There's brand, new stuff, which Douglas created," Stamp, Adams' longtime collaborator, told SCI FI Wire in an interview at WonderCon in San Francisco last weekend. "There's a brand new character called Humma Kavula, who plays a sort of pivotal role there in the middle of the movie, ... and he's the character being played by John Malkovich." The Hitchhiker movie, like the books, centers on the plight of Arthur Dent (Martin Freeman), who finds himself on an odyssey with a ship full of wacky aliens after Earth is destroyed to make way for a galactic bypass. The new character of Kavula is a crazed missionary who lost the election with Zaphod Beeblebrox (Sam Rockwell) for president of the galaxy, Stamp said. "He's clever, whereas Zaphod is stupid and charismatic. ... He's now a missionary ... or a high priest of a cult that believes we were all sneezed into existence by the Great Green Arkleseizure that's waiting for the coming of the Great White Handkerchief. ... It's very Douglas." The Arkleseizure is based on a 3-D model of Adams' nose, Stamp added. www.scifi.com/scifiwire2005/index.php?id=30462I might eventually have to read this book since i always hear everyone talking about it and now it's going to be a movie

Everyone who I know who has read the book has been a HUGE fan of it. I, myself, have never read the book either. It sounds pretty cool, both the book and movie, and I hope this is as good as it sounds!

ALL the HG books were great! Douglas Adams was a genius, wrapping up some very deep concepts in some very dry wit. RIP Douglas Adams

I saw that movie a few months ago it was quite funny, lots of symbolism and satire towards society. I loved it ^_^

Anyone who calls this movie "the stupidest movie ever" is either an immature child who hasn't seen some of the other trash that is coming out of Hollywood, or is a moron with an IQ equivelant to their shoe size. I have read all of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books and they are very dear to me, although Douglas probably should have stopped after "Life, the Universe, and Everything". Now, I'll admit this could have been a LOT better and Mos Def was just not the best choice to play Ford Prefect (too quiet). However, there were some very classic moments, such as when they all turned into yarn puppets and Arthur pukes up a bunch of multi-colored yarn - plus that opening song just gets stuck in your head! It was a really good effort and introduced some rather nice fresh elements to the story to keep those that were familiar enough with it guessing. Douglas Adams would have been very happy with it - may he rest in blissful peace.

I watched the movie The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and I liked it. The shovels coming up and hitting them on the face was indeed funny. I also liked the part when the robot(I forget his name) used that gun that you could use to make other people see your way towards the end.

Unfortunately a bit 'Hollywoodized', but a good watch none the less. Some real funny bits as have already been mentioned. The bureaucracy of the Vogons was good. For a good version though get hold of the original, the radio play. I have it on casette and it is tops.

I've seen this film and I like it very much. My rating: 4 out of 5. Douglas Adams sure is a very good writer. I also like the books and TV series too. Boy they are funny. DON'T PANIC! ;D I though it was the most stupidest move eve but i did like the part where the shovels hit them in the aface for being stupid . i think thats what should happen to real stupid people Actually, those things hit people in the face for having an original thought, not for stupidity.

My gosh this is genius. It's terribly funny. The dolphin song was somewhat disturbing... but who am I to talk?

The movie disappointed me a great deal. I read the book it was hilarious. I was sorely disappointed when the move Jurassic Part came out in comparison the book far much better.
