LOL so true. When I saw Thundercats, I too wondered if it was Anime or not. Some clarification from our Anime experts? ~Myke

Thundercats was produced in Japan by Tokyo Movie Shinza Entertainment and all the artwork and effects were done in Japan too. The only thing americanized I think was the scripts....which techincally makes Thundercats anime....the cartoon Silverhawks was also done the same way....and is considered anime also. Transformers also was the same thing. marvel bought out the rights to some old toy lines in japan and reworked the background story to create the transformers.....while the concept was american all the animation and so on was done in japan by japanese animators.BTW there are no transformer pictures in the above banner.....I assume you are talking about the one on the far left which is Robotech which is one of the biggest anime hits of all time. as far as the second one from the left i am going to leave that a secret for now and see if anyone else recognizes it....it was a huge hit back in the late 70's. It is one of the first anime shows to ever hit the US and was the groundbreaker for all anime to come.

Oh...and I would suggest leaving this category open to discuss all forms of animation I think. Since I don't think we need to create a whole new board just so we can seperate anime from animation and then have to have big long discussions about what belongs in the anime category and what doesnt....but at least everything in the banner is true anime... ;D

I agree with Wolf, and Valder on keeping this thread open for all animatioins, anime and otherwise, because there will be so much cross genre convo that it will be hard to seperate them completely and everything can be coverd in this area ..lol..your call Myke . and I wanna figure out anime that pic is from .. lol

[quote author=ConqueringWolf link=board=anime&thread=1081814983&start=16#1 LOL Thanks for clearing that up for us, Wolf. ;D Whenever I think of anime, I just see see those "Japanese" drawn characters, that you often see standing very still and nothing but their mouth moves - mostly when they are in shock or terrified and the mouth quivers in that typical Japanese anime kind of way. I had no idea that Transformers and Thundercats were classed as Anime. Additional: I just looked the word "anime" up in the dictionary and it says: A style of animation developed in Japan, characterized by stylized colorful art, futuristic settings, violence, and sex. (But in short, it´s a Japanese word for animation). LOL Therefore, looking at Transformers and Thundercats, they don´t look very Japanese to me - not like the true anime figure at the very right holding that gun. THAT is a figure I can associate with anime. Ooops... sorry... please don´t fall asleep.

we shoulda have a new banner soon....I sent it to myke..had to add another high profile anime series pic to it...lol and has anyone figured out the second pic yet? ;D
and Valderra.....yes there are certain styles that can be considered true anime and easily distinguished...but....on the other hand there are tons of diff styles....has anyone ever seen the silly cartoon sailor moon? or Pokemon....Digimon...and so on....there is really no one set style...it differs from artist to artist.....though usually anything highly sci fi and trendy tends to be anime.....american illustrators and producers tend to be a lot more tame about what they produce.

I learn something new everyday! And yes, if you guys want this forum to be a cross over between anime and animation in general, that's ok with me! ;D ~Myke

It would probably save a lot of unnecessary arguments over what someone considers true anime or not....there are no set rules for what is anime and what is not....generally if its been animated in japan though ur safe calling it anime.

ok...2 clues....sonic boomerang....and G-Force Hmmm... the only sonic I know is Sonic the Hedgehog. And yes, I know Pokemon although I don´t watch those programmes... LOL but I have one of the games for my GBA SP and seen several Pokemon boards. And I also have seen pics of Sailor Moon but think they look rather crap. So... give us another clue then... ;D Oh and I was already an adult in 1978.
