I was just thinking, what would this place be like if all money dissapeared from existence all in a flash? For starters there'd be no economy to worry about. I think there'd be an initial rash of theft and looting plus riots, but after a while, provided no one decided to reinvent the stuff, people would slowly adopt a bartering system, and financial gain would no longer be an issue, people now would just do things to survive.
Of course, that's what I think. Well, what about your thoughts?

I don't know, it would be wierd if the society had no more money any more. I think a barter system would degenerate in chaos nowadays and it would be just an excuse for the most powerful to control the weakest.

Oh, you would need a barter system, but I too often thought that it would be best to do away with money as we know it. Every person should have to contribute to society, having a job, and so the baker makes bread and that will be distributed, the tailer makes clothes, and those will be distributed, the farmer grows vegetables, etc etc. I know this is a very simplified view, and people will find many loop holes, but on the whole, that's the best way it could work.

But would a barter system really work for us if money suddenly disappeared? We are so used to it that I don't think we could survive without it.

It should be used so that those who are too lazy to work for a living don't get away with getting an equal share without producing what they should. For example, if you don't finish the minimum of work expected, you don't get the amount of food and such you would get for your work. Something like that.

So, it'd be like a system of the more work you do, the more food you get for your troubles to replace lost water, minerals and proteins, etc. I think a system like that could be a good solution. We just need to make sure the right people are administering such a scheme though, that's the main problem.

We just need to make sure the right people are administering such a scheme though, that's the main problem. Not necessarily the more you work the more food you get. Each person would have to do a minimum amount of work - for example, if you work in an office, you would be given enough work that you could easily get through in a day. Something like that. Or, we could even all have a micro chip under our skin - the wrist, for example, and it's used like a bar code, so you can't cheat when you want more food than you should have. Anyway... those are just ideas - a lot of work will have to be done with this. But I was actually thinking of the film 'The Island', where everybody got their food and clothes supplied, and had to work for their living as well.

What this makes me think of is early Soviet Russia where they implemented a similar system on farms. No one got any food because no one did any work because no one ate. So, we'd have to take something like that into account.
