...what? I don't think Spielberg told Crichton to write another book, at all. I'm sure Crichton wrote it purely because he wanted to.

Because Wikipedia is always right.
There is nothing on his official website where it says that.
It sounds basically like the readers clamored for another one. Just because Steven was interested, doesn't mean he made him write it.

I'm sorry, it just doesn't make sense for a filmaker to ask an author to write a book just so he can make a movie out of it.
I mean, if Steven really wanted to make a sequel, he could have just have Crichton write the screenplay or hire any ol' flunky to write one. There wouldn't have to be a book.
Yes, if Crichton wanted to write The Lost World, he would be interested, but I do not think there is anything to suggest that he wrote it merely and only because Steven told him too.
I mean, if Steven wanted a sequel to Jaws, do you think he asked Peter Benchley to write another novel?
Or any of the other directors out there who made movies based on books? I mean, come on. It's just not common sense. And I highly doubt, unless there is some proof, and real proof, that the only reason Michael Crichton wrote the Lost World was because Steven Spielberg told him to.

You act like Crichton is Jane Austen or something. He;s not that serious of an author. He doesn't have to have his heart and soul in every novel he writes. If Spielberg offered him enough money, I'm sure that would influence him. Every source out there feels that this is just what happened.

Well the point was that while Jane Austen put all of herself into every book she wrote, Crichton simply thinks of a story, does a little bit of scientific research (enough to get by without being creamed by the scientific community) and then makes a book out of it. Not exactly a guy that's immune from financial influence.

A little bit? Have you seen the bibliographies in the back of some of them? There's dozens of books listed that he has referenced.
If it was as easy for him as you make it out to be, he'd have written 3-4 books a year. But he really only releases one every 2-3 years because it takes so long for him to research everything and get it right.

Wikipedia is always right. Wikipedia is as correct as any website out there. Remember, ANYONE can write ANYTHING on ANY website, not just wikipedia.

Which is why I'm not allowed to use Wikipedia as a source for work.

You're not allowed to because teachers/professors are still in denial because they don't really understand what Wikipedia is.

I think with Wikipedia is that you need to use your sense of judgement as to whether the info in an article is correct or not. "If it doesn't look or sound right to you, chances are it's not."

You're not allowed to because teachers/professors are still in denial because they don't really understand what Wikipedia is. I'm not talking about teachers or professors. I was talking about my job, not school. I think with Wikipedia is that you need to use your sense of judgement as to whether the info in an article is correct or not. "If it doesn't look or sound right to you, chances are it's not." Exactly. Sometimes I'll use it to get some alternate spellings when I'm figuring on what someone is saying. Then I have something to plug into a search engine and find a reputable site.
