I don't know if playing it on the cell phone would be as great as on the PC though

probably not, but my expectations are not that high. when i get a cell phone game i'm just looking for something that keeps me from getting bored instead of adding to the boredom. some of the games that came with my phone create boredom--that's never a good thing!

I agree on that point, but to me, I would rather play a game that wouldn't be complicated on a cell phone either. Age of Empires would seem to be alot harder to do on a cell phone.

I love the PC vesion of it. I play it alot especially when you play on Regicide mode. I, prefer the second game opposed to the first and recent 3rd one that came out. Age of Mythology is also a similar game, but with better graphics.

I have heard of it. I'm told it can be played on the internet using Dial Up

I've got Age of Empires III. It's a great game. I've played it a few times online with friends and I always lost. I never got really far into the game. I just liked playing the skirmishes. There is even some cheat you enter. When you enter some words some big red trucks appear. They are pretty funny. Really strong too!

Yeah, I have some of the cheat codes on my forum, for all three games, lol... I want to get (or at least play) the full version sometime. I'm sick of being British and Spanish all the time.

As much as I really wanted to fall in love with it, Age of Empires III was a disappointment. I never felt the same magic playing it as I did when I first played either of the first two. And the expansion pack is nowhere near the quality of The Conquerors for The Age of Kings.
The focus of the game has changed over the years. The first two games (plus their expansion packs) focused on single player campaigns with a strong narrative, with random maps for single and multiplayer as a side to the central part of the game. The third game seems to have gone the opposite way - it's more of a game to play over the net now, against other people on random maps. The single player campaign was atrocious - and those campaigns were what made the Age of Empires series stand out from other RTS games.
The cheats for the game have always been a bit wacky. I've never tried them on AoEIII but I remember having the viper car on AoK which was a lot of fun.

I don't know... I enjoyed AoE III, though I had to get used to whole 'home city' idea and getting shipments. Though, I can't really compare, as I haven't played any of the AoE games online. I've only played versus the computer.

I thought the home cities and shipments were a great idea. Not perfectly implemented, but still a nice addition to the game. I'd love to have the graphics and effects of AoEIII (and some of the new features) coupled with the wonderful single player campaigns from AoK. The one thing that keeps me playing Age of Kings these days is that it just doesn't look very realistic compared to newer games. I'd love it if they did an updated version - or even better, Age of Empires IV with classic Age of Empires gameplay.
I'd still say I enjoyed AoEIII, don't get me wrong. I just think it's a slight step down in quality from the first two games. Then again, every game series/franchise has it's titles that are quite up to the high standard of the rest.

Yeah, I suppose I see what you mean... However, I've only played the trial, so I don't think I could get into some of the features anyway, lol.
I agree, it would be cool to have, say, another game with awesome graphics, without the timeline moving on.. eventually, we'll run out of empires.
III is the colonial age... and what's left? *shrug*

This is a photo from the art book in the Age of Empires II: Collector's Edition (which is worth it even if you didn't think the game wasn't so good - there is loads of AoE stuff in there), which shows a teaser of where the series might be heading next. If they do follow this up, it'll be a very bold move.
