We're only human afterall, and even if the current lot don't do it to each other, someone with less benign ambitions may come along and wreck things bad before they're banned.

But why is everyone just assuming it will be abused? I doubt TR members are that awful to smite each other forever. Well that's true. I'm sure we have a better group of people here than most other places (In ProBoards land, at least), and a lot of the active members are responsible - most of them are moderators, no less.

We seem virtually split down the middle on this.
My opinion, it doesn't matter to me one way or another, the choice belongs to you guys.
As for abusing it, all karma actions are logged in the security log, so seeing who abuses it, if anyone would, would be caught fairly quickly.

Exactly.... You'd be able to see, if it happens, who is continually smiting people. But for the most part, I think the members here would just take it all in stride. And really, if you're smited once or twice, it's not like it really means anything, right? Like, there's one board I visit and I have like -140 karma and it doesn't bother me, lol.

Haha. I think it was just some member who thought it was amusing to smite me every moment she got... because she doesn't like me. But, meh. I don't really pay attention to the number. ;p

This probably isn't going to become a feature because it seems more are against it then for it, and I hate to do anything that anyone is against so everyone is happy here.

Well, if you really want karma, but don't want it to be abused, you can always hold contests or something... with the prize being a certain amount of karma.. or when you reach different posting ranks, you get so much karma. Or just put up some rules: Like exalt someone if you like their post or whatever.I dunno. Yeah i agree with you Mara. I think it does depend on what forum you have it on and the members you have, if they can be trusted to use it properly, but it is just a bit of fun. We have it on mine, so far it hasn't been abused, it's generally used if someone has written a good post. It's also quite useful if you want to run a comp, the member that wins gets so many karma points, but all in the name of fun!

I actually agree with you guys, our core group of members here all good members and I can't see anyone abusing it. The reason we got rid of it in the first place was because v4 of ProBoards was added during a time when we had custom designed mini profiles, and the karma feature wasn't compatible with it.

Kamra, Myke? LOL What's that?? I think we were talking about Karma before and I said then, and my opinion hasn't changed, that I don't use it on my own forums. Some people dislike other members and give them minus points just for the fun. And those who have only a few Karma points will wonder why they have so little and others so many. Even if you leave out the minus points, it's still going to bother those members who see a lot of Karma points on other members whereas they have little. I am against using it.
