I don't think I've posted in this topic..
I don't know how Darth Maul could ever earn the right to step on the same planet as Vader, nevermind be in the same room, nevermind fight him. If he did fight, he would get the same result as he did against Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan beat Maul, yes, after struggling for a time, yes. However, when Obi-Wan fought Anakin, Anakin was still just an apprentice (hence the line, "..I was but the learner"), but when Anakin became Vader, his power increased hugely ("Now I am the master"). Vader was able to effectively defeat the Jedi Order, which had stood for many years (which includes times of war with the Sith) through many dangerous times. Vader proved to be more powerful than any Sith lord before him, by doing what they could not collectively do. Maul was a (albiet effective fighter) bog-standard Sith apprentice. Vader is the greatest Sith Lord to ever live.
Best Sith Lord Of All Time > Bog-Standard Sith Apprentice.
Speaks for itself really.

I completly agree ^ and couldnt have said it better myself. Vader was the most powerful sith, and the Jedi Council should have listened to Yoda when he was having his doubts. How irresponsably dangerous it was to train such a powerful Jedi with his future unclear to Master Yoda, and with the Dark Side's presence being felt after so long.

I think his only superior would be Luke Skywalker. I'm unsure about how far Palpatine's strength went.

Age means nothing though, Yoda was 800 some years old when he defeated Count Dookoo in Episode II.

Maul wasn't even that big a character anyway. And from what I've heard happens in no 3, even though maul did take on two people at once, anakin (a.k.a) vader whipes out everyone!

I don't think he actually did see him. Qui Gon ran off the ship. The ship doesn't have passenger windows or anything like that. Anakin knew he was there, but he never saw him. Well, in the hangar when Anakin was hiding in the starfighter, he saw Maul come out, and remove his cloak.

I think his only superior would be Luke Skywalker. I'm unsure about how far Palpatine's strength went. The whole Skywalker family (I've found a magazine feature about this family) is supposed to be the 'guardians' of the force - it's the family that is destined to bring balance to the force. Anakin (eventually) fulfilled that prophecy, with the help of Luke (and Leia, in a way). The children of both Luke (and Mara Jade) and Leia (and Han Solo) continue their force-sensitive nature. The only two exceptions to the Skywalker family rule are Yoda and Palpatine (and perhaps Obi-Wan, as he survived the Clone War and aided Luke against both Vader and Palpatine). I don't really know how strong Palpatine and Yoda were, but we can assume that they were powerful enough, having taught both Anakin and Luke in their time (in very different ways though). Palpatine was trying to pull the Skywalker family apart and use it to his advantage, but Yoda was trying to use that same family to go against Palpatine.

In FACT, both Palpatine and Yoda taught both Luke and Anakin (although only fans of the EU actually consider this to be part of the Star Wars story (read the Dark Empire and Dark Empire II novels)).
I don't think he actually did see him. Qui Gon ran off the ship. The ship doesn't have passenger windows or anything like that. Anakin knew he was there, but he never saw him.
Well, actually, Anakin and Qui-Gon were both running towards the ship when Maul attacked. Anakin was lagging behind and called out to Qui-Gon to slow down or something, and Qui-Gon looked around, to see Maul speeding along behind Anakin on his speeder. He shouted at Anakin to get onto the ship and whipped out his 'sabre. So Anakin rushed to the ship and told Obi and co. that they had been attacked. And Anakin had turned round whilst running, so he saw Maul (I think. And even if he didn't, in the cockpit, Obi-Wan pointed out of the window to where they were, so that the pilot and Anakin could see Mauly and Qui-Gon fighting.
Yah why did he pant his face was it a aprentice thing? Helmet cool / face paint not kool
Darth Maul was a Zabrak from the Planet of Iridonia, just like Eeth Koth, member of the Jedi High Council (who is shown below): As you can see, Koth does not have the facepaint that Maul does have. This is because Maul abandoned all trace of his former identity when he took on his Sith name and even had intricate Sith tattoos applied to his entire body (you can see this clearer in this graphic novel). There was actually a short comic series by Darkhorse (I think) about Darth Vader vs. Maul. In fact, I have a picture from it, so I'll try and scan it in and show it to you all.
