A lot of people rag on the acting of Episode III, so I ask, what do you think the best acting performance of Episode III was?
For me it was Ian McDiarmid (Supreme Chancellor Palpatine). His scene where Palpatine was talking with Anakin about Darth Plagius the Wise was great. Even though he was in no make up, and was not acting like an evil villain, he gave off the presence of evil so well. Just the way he spoke in his soft tone seemed so cold and evil.
He did well going between Chancellor Palpatine, to evil Palpatine, to Darth Sidious/The Emperor.
I do not think anyone could have played those characters any better.

This is a hard one...
I'm going to go with Ewan McGregor. It must have been very hard for him to act most of the time infront of the green screen.

I agree... with both of you they did do a great job but I'm going to with Anakin. He had the most emotioal role and he did it amazingly. He had a difficult job of playing a confused good person gone bad because of padme sorta thing. And the way he had to express his emotions towards some peopel and be harsh and confusing to others... would be difficult.

I'd liked the bit where Obi Wan fights general grievous on utapau and also the bit when where Obi Wan and Anakin try and rescue the chancellor

McDiarmid certainly did an excellent job. Besides that, nobody really stood out for me. Then again, bad acting and screenplay has kinda been what gave Star Wars its extra charm, if you know what I mean.

McDiarmid absolutely stole the show. Because of his performance, the film which was supposed to be about Anakin Skywalker became a film about the Emperor. There are so many scenes where you could feel the evil pouring out of him, whether he was under the guise of a Sith Lord or appearing as the Chancellor in the earlier scenes. As Myke said, the cold and ruthless tone in his voice was a big reason for this. McDiarmid had a certain aura about him that meant he commanded the scenes he was in; rather like a certain Darth Vader in the older trilogy.

Cheesiness and Star Wars go hand in hand.. and I think that's part of why we all love it so much.

I'll have to vote for McDiarmid as well. the Emperor was at least tolerable in this one to me, everyone else I just couldn't hang with. Since the prequel trilogy came out, I don't think I've ever watched a single episode the original trilogy in full... I actually thought it was the same guy playing him this time around - I know, duh right? But that shows you how much I read up on things. Oh, indeed. Cheesiness and Star Wars go hand in hand.. and I think that's part of why we all love it so much. Quoted for truth.

Indeed it was! I think that worked out perfect for him, since he was made up too look so much older in Return of the Jedi, but as he aged over the years he actually looked younger in Episode I as an aging human Palpatine. Perfect.

It was the same actor in 1-3 as it was in 6.... wow I would have never imagined it was the same person. Anyways, though McDiarmid did an awesome job as the Emperor, I preffered Ewan McGregor. He does a great character out of Obi Wan, and the fact that he had to do a lot of green screen acting is something to be appreciated.
