Theoretically, yes. But the computer that controls the stargate at the SGC isn't a laptop. It's a big honkin' supercomputer (to paraphrase O'Neill). I guess if you know your home coordinates and you have a power supply, then you should be ok without all that computational speed. They could put an extra power supply on the MALP, just in case.
In most of the episodes I recall where they've had to make it home without a DHD they've had other issues and there was no MALP. I'd hate to carry enough D-batteries in MY backpack to power a stargate... ;D. If the MALP had a big battery pack it would have been nice in "The Torment of Tantalus". They had to use static electricity from a lightening bolt to power the gate.

DHD Kablooey. In "48 hours" the SGC borrows the Russian DHD (what a negotiation nightmare THAT was).
Chock-full-of-suprises episode. The NID, the Russians, the Goa'uld who is a prisoner of the NID, "Q", Maybourne, and a socially inept food-intolerant scientist who thinks studying stargate simulations makes him a better expert than Sam on gate workings -- but comments that he has an inexplicable attraction to "dumb blondes", which he clearly considers Sam to be.
Anyway mission accomplished. Teal'c, apparently lost in transit when a wormhole prematurely terminates, is rescued.
"Q" is arrested, for all the good THAT will do, and the blonde-struck physicist is sent to Russia to help them with their Naquada Generator program. Much to his disgust.
Alls well that ends well!

An Egyptian archaelogist is trying to recover ancient Egypt's archaelogical finds and have them returned to Egypt. If Stargate was real life, he would also want the Stargate returned also. If the Stargates are found where there are pyramids, then they would be found in South America and South East Asia also. At the end of season 7, Anubis' fleet wiped out by Oneill and he is in Antartica. The story of the Alien versus Predator is also based in the same place, with an underground pyramid. It seems sci fi writers are running out of ideas.

Why dont they use the dhd instead of the computer? Because if they used the DHD they would have no contol interface for the irus. Has anyone else notice that there is a missing DHD on earth. The russian found a DHD but not a Stargate because the Americans had it. Then in Antartica the Americans found a second gate and a second gate and a second DHD. We know both were take because in Touchstone we see it being used to open the second gate. But when we get to 48 hours There is no sign of the second DHD and they had to convice the Rusians to give them thiers.

Actually, the main reason they don't use a DHD is because they don't have one to use. The one that goes with the Giza gate was, as you mentioned, in the hands of the Russians (who got it from the Germans). After the SGC borrowed it and used it to save Teal'c, it overloaded and became useless. They couldn't use the Antarctic DHD, either. It had a limited power source when they found it, and it just stopped working.
