This is true, Val...sex sells I guess...even in sci-fi.

he was much younger than - and not as sexy-looking as he is nowadays. Oh man are you ever wrong. When MacGyver was on the air on ABC, they were always swamped with letters for him. He never understood why, but he loved it. SG-1 I don't think he ever got as many letters as he did on MacGyver, then again, not many people actually like Sci-Fi like they did for MacGyver which was actually considered a family show, unlike SG-1

Not to mention the show is not that good...IMO anyway. I am excited about Atlantis though. It looks promising.

Just because the masses loved him then, doesn´t mean I have to stand in the queue with everyone else and agree with them.

I wasnt saying you were wrong, just the majority lost interest in him after MacGyver.
Then again he did drop off the radar for a long time after that show as well.
To be honest, I never really thought he was that great of an actor either, just his youth helped him on MacGyver, but on SG-1 he just wasnt credible in some of the shit he did in that series

I'm still looking forward to this show, I hope Sci-Fi Channel really gets behind it. .. . us.imdb.com/title/tt0374455/tlantis follows the adventures of the Stargate Atlantis team, which is formed after a secret base, abandoned by the original builders of the Stargates, is found buried in the ice of Antarctica. Their discovery leads to a daring expedition to the distant Pegasus galaxy, where they encounter a primitive human civilization and a sinister new enemy that threatens human life everywhere.
Maj. John Sheppard, a courageous and gifted pilot,Dr. Elizabeth Weir, head of the mission and a diplomatic relations specialist. Rounding out the cast is Lt. Aiden Ford, an enthusiastic young officer who becomes Sheppard's second-in-command, astrophysicist Dr. Rodney McKay(SG-1), and Teyla, a beautiful young leader among the primitive alien civilization that the Atlantis team encounters. In a special guest starring role, sci-fi favorite Robert Patrick (Terminator 2, The X-Files) will appear as Col. Marshall Sumner in the two-hour Atlantis premiere event. Following its premiere, 18 additional original episodes of Atlantis will air during the show's regular Friday night 10 p.m. ET/PT slot, as a companion series to the all-new eighth season of Stargate SG-1.The only thing is, I believe it will air the same time as Enterprise, in my area, so Atlantis will likley be recorded.

Look like it could be fun, but...
"a sinister new enemy that threatens human life everywhere." Wouldn't the replicators qualify as such a threat? as I recall, the Asguard were having a very difficult time with them as it was.
I'll probably end up eating my own words by saying this, but how much worse can you get then a race of machines that only gets stronger as you develop more advanced technology to stop them? When they can use your own technology against you, how much worse can you get?
Maybe they'll do a vampire like threat? one that can spread by contagion? Maybe I'm way off the mark, but that's the impression I got from the previews for Atlantis when they showed that pasty looking...thing. Maybe that was their intention though, to be misleading and keep people guessing.
Seems reasonable, at least to me.
Still, I hope it is ends up decent at least, but preferably good to better in quality.

" a sinister new enemy that threatens human life everywhere." And exactly how many times has this idea been done to death people?

The idea has been done to death, but I see why they continue to do it, to try to give an 'all or nothing' feeling to the show, like our heros has to win to save humanity, just raising the stakes some. I virtually know nothing about the show outside of the previews and this thread. We have 5 more weeks untill we see if we are right or not!

Next month will be the world premiere of the series. Perhaps you are thinking of Stargate the movie?
