Ive been using Seti@home for 2 years now but couldnt remember my old account which had 1400 hours worth. But is nothing compared to my friend who had turned me onto it. He has over 15,000 hours. Over 2000+ packets done. It amazes me.
My new account has 14 packets at 615 hours. On average Ive noticed that the packets are about 60 hours each. Most times. There are also add on Progs that can show you where the signal you are analyzing is from. I had them installed, But alas they are on the corrupted HD.
As I type this I go to Seti@Home and grab a few Add-Ons and am once again happy. Alot more since last time was there. WoW. I like the Wav converter. Got nutin but static. But nice to interact with the Prog a lil more than as is.
Folding@Home is interesting also. Didnt care for the GUI and the hell with human proteins. Signals from space benefit all of us as a whole. Understanding human proteins will make some megacorp richer.

Anyone else interested in doing this? I't realy a noble cause in our community. If there's any interest I'll start over and start a new group. Also, please don't ignore this message, if you're not interested, please say so.

setiathome.berkeley.edu/index.phpIf you're interested, I'm going to restart this so we can all start out fresh. I'ts 100 percent safe, takes up almost 0 resources, and even has the toption not to run unless the computer is idle. Let me know what you think and I'll reset it all so we can all start over.

I'm willing to participate in it and it's for a good cause.
In the system requirements this puzzled me;
"with a typical computer (such as a 2 GHz Pentium 4), you'll need to let SETI@home run for at least 2 hours per week (slower computers are fine but they'll have to run proportionally more)."
What does that mean? I have to at least keep my computer on for two hours a week?

I just signed into my account for the first time in years. Nothing is the same, so I'm going to study their new layout some.
ConqueringWolf is also an expert at this some I'm going to ask him to come here and explain it to us.

I haven't used Seti at all since they went to the new format because I dislike it. They use a new program now that is kind of like a task sharing program, you can let it use several different programs to run on your computer and pick how much time you want each one to be able to run on your computer. It is a lot more complicated than the old Seti at home setup and I never really liked the new method so I just forgot about it since they changed. I couldn't tell you much more than that at the moment.

I'm going to look into this further tomorrow and try to find the easiest way for us to do this since everything has changed. Once I do this I'll lock this thread and create a new one with detailed instructions on how to paticipate, and will try to set up a new Temporal Reality SETI group since it seems ours was erased with their change.

It used to be so simple, but they complicated it in the past few months. I'll figure it out though and try to make it easy for you guys. It's really a lot of fun knowing your computer is listening to noise from deep space, knowing there is a chance you're picking up an alien signal. And it does not take much CPU or memory at all. I'd say it takes less then running Yahoo Messenger, or anything like that.
