Help S.E.T.I. (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) analize data from thier radio telescopes from your own PC. You never know, you could be taking part in the greatest discover in human history, the discovery that we are not alone in the universe!! From the SETI webiste: "The SETI@home program is a special kind of screensaver. Like other screensavers it starts up when you leave your computer unattended, and it shuts down as soon as you return to work. What it does in the interim is unique. While you are getting coffee, or having lunch or sleeping, your computer will be helping the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence by analyzing data specially captured by the world's largest radio telescope." So basically your computer will help analyze incomming data from thier telescopes, then send the completed, analyzed dadta stream to them, which will increase the payload of data searched, which helps the search for alien life!! Here is a link to thier site, with links to info, and downloads to install the program that will help this important project out!! setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/download.htmlAnd isn't it any Sci-Fi fans dream to take part in discovering new life?

Here is a screenshot I took of my SETI program after installing it and setting it up. It's pretty cool: I decided to let it run all of the time, 24/7, as it dosent effect my net speed at all. What's a real cool thought, is that my computer is recieving info and sound that is being pulled directly from outerspace!! As we type this, I may be recieving signals from anohter galaxy, and I personally am helping out in the search for other life. We really are in the future, if someone had told me 10 years ago, that I'd own a home computer that was recieving signals from space and analyzing the data for SETI, I would have never of believed them.

Ahh, see, I've not had that problem yet, as my computer is connected to the internet 24/7. With Wolf's help, I have created a SETI group named Temporal Reality. Basically it's for fun, people who use this program can join the TR group, and all of our stats are added together and we are ranked based on the stats. Currently SETI is having problems with thier website, and I can't get the groups to come up, but once thier problems are solved, I'll post more info on it, with a link.

I've never even seen the screensaver yet, I think my moniter is set to go off before the screensaver is set to come on during idle time, lol.

I have had the SETI screensaver for donkey´s years. At the time, I was only on 56KB connections so I could only run it when I was offline. I think it´s a great idea - just staring at the data being processed makes you want to go out there and take that telescope and search some more.

Welcome aboard, there's 4 of us in our group!! Maybe one day a TR member's computer will identify an alien signal, and the forum based on anything being possible through imagination will have a helping hand in finding alien life.

That isn't bad, they take along time to complete, somewhere around 14 oto 18 hours to complete just one data unit.
