Well it finally happened! My last name is famous for something other than being the company that produces Tylenol! In West Paducah, Kentucky a guy named Julian McNeil (an amatuer astronomer) found a never before recorded nebula and got it named after him! I was pretty blown away because I live in Paducah and share the same last name and I've never met the guy. Paducah's a place where you pretty much have at least heard of everybody. Only about 70,000 people here. For a cool site of some animated history pics of the nebula's recent formation and links to other pics of the nebula, go here: www.rc-astro.com/nebulae/mcneil_anim.htm

Wow! One state away?! It's too bad I'm on the extreme western edge of Kentucky. Paducah is literally across the river from Illinois. Probably at least an 8 hour drive to where you are. Who knows, maybe we could see where all of the Temporal Reality members live and schedule a face-to-face meeting someday! That would be pretty cool to hang out with all the people I've conversed with here!

Yeah, that would be pretty cool. I still have the guestmap where we posted a pin on our location, I had up when we had the Blue theme, but due to conflicting codes within the site, it fails to appear. I think it may have to do with the Link Exchange banners on the bottom of every page. I added those for in return, Temporal Reality's banner appears on hundreds, if not more, web sites as banner ads, but it is not directing traffic to us like I had hoped, so I may do away with it and re-ad the guestmap. However, I am spending a cosiderable amount of time in promoting this place, probably more time each day then I actually spend here posting, so hopefully in the future we will have many more friends to meet! It's just a slow process, but that's the nature of the beast. ~Myke

Okay, usually I feel like I'm in Hell because of the small town way of life here in Paducah, KY. But something cool actually came of it 2 days ago.
I was at Circuit City buying a replacement power cord for my laptop and as I was checking out, I paid with my debit card. The girl behind the counter said, "Oh, wow, my last name is McNeil too!"
"Really?" I asked. "I thought I knew all the McNeils that lived in Paducah. There aren't a whole lot of us."
This is where is gets cool. "Oh it's my husband's last name. He's from Texas originally. You may have heard of him though. He's the one that discovered the nebula a few weeks back."
"NO WAY!!!" I exclaimed. "Are you serious! What a small world! I read all about that in the paper and on the Internet just a couple of days after it happened!"
Needless to say, we talked for about ten minutes after that, mostly about personal family relations and whatnot, but I did think it was an amazing coincidence (or just a product of this black, swirling vortex I live in) that we would meet finally and I could put a face with the name.
That's it. Just thought it would be kind of a cool follow-up story.
