Aliens was on TV Saturday night and I watched it, and noticed something. When Burke and Ripley are talking about Burke sending the colonists to the Derelict, Burke keeps telling Ripley that if she is smart, they can come out of this whole thing as winners, meaning they can be rich if they smuggle some aliens back. If the company had ordered Burke to bring some back, it doesn't seem like he'd be rich, it seems like he's trying to do this on his own, so he can sell the aliens to the weapons division. You are right, Myke. Why didn't I think of this before - I know, more or less, the whole dialogue by heart. LOL It's true, Ripley did tell Burke that she found out that it was he who sent those people to the ship, and that the company will find out about him from her. So they couldn't have known about it, which is very strange since the real 'Bishop' seems to have been behind the scheme of getting an alien back to Earth. And then again, Burke could, theoretically, have worked for Bishop, and only those around Bishop could have known about it.

Don't feel bad, I didn't think of it either until the other night that scene made me think of this thread. The Android Bishop was built with Isaac Asimov's "Three Laws of Robotics" 1.A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 2.A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. 3.A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law. In the cafeteria scene he stated it was impossible for him to harm another human being, or by action allow a human being to be harmed. So he basically paraquoted the first law of robotics, which makes me think he was built with the three laws. Therefore, he could not go along with Burke's plan, as it would violate his programming. As for the human Bishop, in all honesty, that's a bit far fetched that the guy who designed the Bishop model would be involved in the secret part of the company who wanted the aliens as weapons. But then again, remember, the only reason he was sent was so Ripley could see a familiar face. So before that, I don't think he had anything to do with the weapons division, or the evil part of the company, thus his android wouldn't either. Android Bishop was just there because it was regulation to have one on board.

It never became clear what the real Bishop's involvements was. We just saw him as part of the group who came to fetch Ripley and the alien inside her, and take them back to Earth. I would have liked to have known a little more about the real Bishop. It's strange that it is his face that belonged to the AI Bishop, yet the real Bishop should have nothing to do with it. He might actually be the one person behind the whole 'lets get an alien back to Earth' programme....
Oh no... how stupid of me. Why didn't I think of this either. The real Bishop wasn't real. He was just another robot. Remember someone (either the guard or the last prisoner) hit him over the head from behind, and you could see one of Bishop's ears flapping about. Bishop was just a robot - not a real person.
So much for that theory. LOL

Double post alert...
I am right now watching AVP, and since this is suppose to be a prequal (which I didn't know before), I now realise that Bishop, the man, will never be part of the Alien movies, because in the AVP film, he is already pretty sick, and gets killed long before the film is over. Therefore, there never was a 'real' Bishop in the Alien movies. Bishop's mystery solved. ;D

Well I think Lance Henriksen is Mr. Weyland, founder of The Company. Maybe the Bishop androids were designed after him. The bishop from Alien 3 could be a reletive.... or maybe not.

I mentioned that in Alien 3, it was not the real Bishop but just another android. You knew he was not real when someone bashed him over the head and one of his ears came undone.

I don't remember that at all. I haven't seen Alien 3 in few years I don't think. I'll have to watch it again.

That's quite spooky. Nicely done, Myke. ;D So, anyway... you simply have to watch the movie again. It's a little different to the other movies, but it has a rather sad ending. And watch out for Bishop's ear (I think it's the right one), when he gets hit over the head. LOL

I've seen them all recently, but haven't seen 3 in a while. I don't own it either so will definitely watch it the next chance I get. And be careful, I think that alien is loosing patience with us, and may jump out at any minute.
