Some people may not care for the third Alien instalment, but I thought it was a great film.
It had funny moments:
Aaron: This is where we keep it - I don't know what this shit's called.
David: Quinitricetyline.
Aaron: I knew that. I'm off... David, you get these drums organized, ready to move.
David: Right, 85.
Aaron: Don't call me that!
Ripley: What's this 85 thing?
David: It's his I.Q.
And it had sad moments, especially at the end, when Ripley threw herself into the hot molden steel. I still get dewy eyes when I see that scene.
And it had pretty many shocking scenes as well. For example, who would have thought that Dr. Clemens was going to get it, and so early into the movie as well? *shock*
Here are the characters/actors for those not remembering
Ellen Ripley - Sigourney Weaver Dillon - Charles S. Dutton Clemens - Charles Dance Andrews - Brian Glover Aaron - Ralph Brown Morse - Danny Webb Bishop II - Lance Henriksen David - Pete Postlethwaite
I am immensely impressed with all the Alien movies because it's always a woman who is the only surviver who moves on to the next instalment.
So... what did you think of this film? And didn't you just like the fact that, for the first time, Ripley was the only female actor in this movie? ;D

Ripley is one of my favorite movie character period, male or female. I was highly anticipating this movie when it came out all of those years ago, but was highly disappointed in it, following Aliens and all. It is a poor follow-up to Aliens, when thought of like that. However, I do not think it was meant to be a sequel to Aliens, more then it was meant to be a sequel to to Alien. I know it's director is very disappointed in his film, and know Fox and it's producers really messed up his vision of the film, and forced several re-writes of the script. Did you know the original version of the script had it set on Earth, and had more of an Aliens feel to it - the version that had Fincher agree to direct it? Yeah, I was disappointed in this version, however the more times I watch it, the more I have grown to appreciate this movie, and the more I can appreciate the fact that it is more like the original Alien, with only one alien running around attacking people with little to no weapons to defend themselves. That brings back the scary aspect that the original movie had. One thing that to this day I do not like is the fact that they decided to go CGI with the Alien. The alien in the first two movies (with the exception of the alien in space in the original) looked really scary the way they were shot, looked very realistic, but the CGI in Alien 3 was at a time when CGI was still a very new thing, and at times it was very apparent that it was CGI, and it looked very fake. I would prefer they left it people in the suite, and shot it in the brilliant ways that it was shot in Aliens and Alien, those aliens looked real and creepy. But yeah, I've grown to really appreciate and enjoy this film, but as irony would have it, Alien 3 is 3rd on my list of the 4 as far as the order of my favorites.

Valderra, somewhere in this board you once told me you didn't really care for Alien 3 until you saw it again recently. I can't seem to find the post of that, but I have not watched Alien 3 for a long time before posted that. Alien 3 was on HBO tonight, so I decided to watch, and watch without any pre-conceptions this time. I still stand by my remarks about the CGI in this movie. After viewing the first two, surly they could have seen that the CGI was not as scary as the previous movies. I feel they should have used the techniques from the first two. With that said, I really enjoyed this movie much more this time around. I got into how suspenseful some of the scenes were. Even Ripley going into that corridor to seek out the Alien was suspenseful to me. Any time they showed the real alien, and not the CGI alien, he looked creepy, they did a nice job on him, considering he wasn't the either of the ones from Alien or Aliens. I also noticed the funeral scene of Hicks and Newt more this time around, and thought that was a beautiful scene. I loved after Dillon said from death comes life, we see the baby alien that burst out of the dog. So yeah, I know what you mean now, I have a much better appreciation for Alien 3.

I love Alien 3, despite the changes in directors and such that so many moan about and say contribute to it being to choppy. My only quibble is the cgi aliens as well. People also moan about there only being one alien, to me that's far more exciting, especially as they had no weapons, it was just a lowly prison full of nutters.
Of course i was sad Newt and Hicks were killed of, but some of the prisoners were quite funny and Charles Dance and Brian Glover excellent. Like Myke I like the charater of Ripley alot, but i really really don't care for Alien: Resurrection, that was the worst one for me.

I agree, the one alien was nice this time around. There was only one in the original Alien, and that movies is not only a classic, but an absolutely brilliant movie. For Aliens, I'm glad there was a whole nest of them, since we had Colonial Marines with heavy firepower (at least before the first battle they had heavy firepower). For Alien 3, I'm happy they went back to their roots, somewhat, with only one alien and no real defenses on the part of the humans. But yeah, I really enjoyed Alien 3 last night, much more then I ever have before. In fact, the only change I would recommend making to it is re-doing the CGI Alien for some special DVD release. Other then that I have no more real complaints. As for Alien Resurrection, blah, it's okay as a stand alone film, but as part of the Alien franchise, it's really quite terrible.
