If James Cameron had made Aliens today, would it had been a better movie, or not?
Keep in mind that the actors would likely had been different, or at least been very much older. If the actors were different, and since this is a different time, would the memorable quotes have been the same? If so, would they have been as effective coming from different actors?
More then likely the aliens would be all CGI. So would they have been used more, and been more creepy, or would they have been over exposed, and be less creepy then they were 20 years ago moving around in the shadows, and seen in glimpses like in the ceiling scene.
If Aliens had been made today, would it be a better movie then the Aliens made 20 years ago?

Nope. If it was made today, it would have completely sucked. If the cast was changed, then it would lose about 60% of its coolness, and nowadays all that stupid high-tech look would have ruined it... that's what i think ruined the recent star wars movies, even though theyre set in the past, they look more futuristic? I mean come on!
Modern-technology doesn't fit movies like this. I know it looks "cooler" and "more realistic" but who cares? we don't know what aliens look like, so how can you make something imaginative more realistic? I don't know, i just can't stand some movies these days with there super-cool special effects. have you ever noticed that some of the best movies of all time were made before 2004? that's because they didn't need super cool effects to wow the audience, they used super-cool ideas and segments to wow the audience.
So no, i reckon if cameron had made aliens today, it would be nowhere near as good as it was when it was made 20 years ago.

I think there is a time for everything, and usually the right actors are at hand at the right time to make the right movie. It's not hard to imagine what it would have been like if 'Aliens' had been made today. You only have to look at the actors that were in AvP, and the movie itself. I don't think many people will talk about this film in another 20 years - at least not with such a passion the Alien movies are still talked about and watched today.

I have to agree with you guys. I think if Aliens had been made today, it would have been another run of the mill science fiction/action movie, nothing special about it at all, whether or not Cameron made it.
I think part of the brilliance of it was the fact that CGI was not an integral part of it. Take this for example... the battle in the hive;
That is one of the absolute chilling scenes in any action movie ever. I think what makes that whole hive battle work is the fact that we experience most of it through the visuals on the monitors, and through the background sounds as we see the terrified expressions on LT. Gorman's face. WE get a true sense of panic, a true sense of chaos, then Gorman through fear and in a whisper tries to tell them to fall back, but Ripley screams at him that they are cut off, then we know that all is lost.
We can hear the terror of the Marines as well. Hudson is screaming "THEY"RE COMING OUT OF THE GODDAMN WALLS" - THE SARGE IS GONE, LET'S GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE"
We see Hicks shooting his shotgun on the monitor as we hear one of the aliens scream.
That is just one example of how brilliant that film was made.
Had that film of been made today, that entire battle would have taken place right in front of out eyes, with tired CGI being used to show us every detail, as opposed to the mystery and terror of the situation to take us over, the way the Marines experienced it.

So true Myke, the horror and effects of the actors screaming at each other in that scene... couldn't possibly have been done better.
Plus, you only have to look at alien ressurection to know what i'm talking about with the special effects. when that alien jumps out of the water and onto the ladder, it looks so computeristic it looks nothing like the aliens in the first two. Plus, the sound the aliens make in the second one when thye get shot, the "waahree!" sound is so alienic and awsome, why the hell wasn't it incorporated into the third and fourth??!! grrrr!

Not sure. When that alien scream after Hicks shot him, I think that's the only time I heard them do anything other then make that breathing sound they make before they strike.

You sure about that? I hear that sound the alien makes plenty of times, when the sentry guns are firing, when ripley's blasting them all at the end, the queen even makes it if im not mistaken.

Whenever one of them got hurt, the alien in question or the queen herself started to scream, especially when Ripley used the flamethrower on her eggs. There was always a lot of screaming involved whenever one of the aliens got killed. Now, how many times that happened, I can't remember now. I would have to watch the film again and count. LOL

Good point. I guess I only remembered the victim of Hicks' shotgun since that was one of the best scenes on the movie, and since I only heard it, letting me know there was an alien in front of him as opposed to seeing it, like with the queen.
