THE BOOKS ARE THE GREATEST BOOK'S EVER WRITTEN ALTHOUGH THE MOVIE WAS WELL PORTRAYED FROM THE BOOK. BUT THE MOVIE STILL MISSES VITAL CHARACTERS FROM THE BOOK!. TOLKIEN RULES!!!!. HIS LEGACY LIVES ON!. ;D Welcome to Temporal Reality DarkAngel!!

well I watched the 1st and 2nd movie before I read any of the books so at first I just loved the movies but then I had a report and had to read all 4 books (with The Hobbit) in 3 weeks -_- and the first 2 I still kinda liked the movies better just b/c I was so use to watching it. I'd seen them like 10 times. But then I read the 3rd one and watched the movie and was so disappointed that I chose to like the books better. Great details and just makes more sense most of the time.

The Movies were excellently made and are wonderful and exciting to watch. The extended editions are even better. But, that's because they are truer to the books. No question the books are better.

I never read the books, so I voted movies. I tried reading the first book, but I didn't get further than the first couple of pages. lol Usually I like the books better than the movies, though.

if it hadn't been for the movies, I never would've even known that LotR existed...so, I have to give credit to both, I think the books and the movies are both good in different ways...

I love the films, but I can't say which I prefer because I havn't read the books. I have read a few books in my time but I just couldn't read the Hobbit, I will read it in time and then I will have a go at the LOTR books but until then I wont vote. Watch this space (or a post later on) to see which way I vote!
By the way, do the books leave out bits that you would think are vital to the plot, like they have done in all of the Harry Potter films?

Bumping old threads here. Now, although the films were well done, I have to choose the books here. They have more in them and plus they encourage you to use your imagination more. The result is anything you write yourself will be more imaginative and creative, if you see what I mean?

Right now I'd vote movies, but only because I've seen the movies more than I have read the books.
I plan on reading them again.
