Read this very interesting article about a possible remake of the LOTR trilogy. What do you think?

Hmm a very interesting article. First, I disagree that no great film would ever be re-made. Take Psycho for example, it was re-made frame for frame, reproduced exact, with Vince Vahn playing the part of Norman Bates. It failed, but didn't taint the original in peoples eyes. Beyond that though, maybe no great movie will be remade. Sci-Fi movies are often remade, but ones from pre 1980s when the effects needed for good all around Sci-Fi wasnt there (not saying there is no good pre 1980 sci-fi, there is tons of it). However, for my own personal thoughts on the movies, I would not like them to be remade. They are one of the most successful trilogies in history, right there next to Star Wars. I honestly believe they can do no better on the films. While it is hard for me to imagine CGI getting any better then it already is, I don't think it will ever get so good that the current LOTR films look 'fake' or 'old'. Now, I realize there is a flipped side to this story. The films could be remade, exactly as the books are written. No diviences in the characters, no chapters left out or shortened. I think there are alot of people out there who would like to see this. So, ultimatly, I am not qualified to judge, as while I love LOTR, I neither know enough about it, or the books to make a fair judgment. But going back to Star Wars, and that flipped side of the coin, the article said that there is no room in Star Wars to be remade, no room for a director to take a new creative approach, or to imagine new unrealized realities of those films. However, there may be some with LOTR concerning the deiviances from the books. So who knows, I'd love to hear some of the thoughts here of the the LOTR fanatics.
