You have to repair your computer. I knew that's what you always wanted to do. ;D There are 5 screens that will need your attention. The first thing you have to do is go to the 'Message Center'. Have fun... media.k10k.net/issues/issue077/the_machine.html

Keeps locking up on my computer. Havent yet managed to get it to load past first screen sadly. Seems like it could be fun too *Sigh*
EDIT: Well I've reached the second stage twice, but its frozen both times while I've been trying to work out how to do it.

I just tried the game myself again and have no problems whatsoever. In fact, I always first try the games to make sure they work OK. Is it possible you don't have the latest Macromedia or whatever you need to be able to play a Shockwave game? Usually you are invited to get the upgrade if the game demands it.

Doubt it... this computer is brand new (as in about five days old) so Iv literally just downloaded everything.
Do you use FireFox or IE? Cos Im on FireFox... *Wonders to self.* I dont see why it would make a difference, but Im going to try it on IE anyway.
Well, I just managed to reach the third level... but I dont think I did the right thing, and it just locked up once more *Sigh* Im quickly running out of patience for this.

I have been told that with Firefox, quite a few online games that were designed for IE, didn't work as well for Firefox users. I use IE.

Well weirdly it wouldnt load full stop on IE. It just had a big empty picture square. Strange.
EDIT: Ok its working this time on IE, has yet to lock up. Im totally stuck on stage 3 lol!!
All the folders have gone and now little pink circles keep flashing up around the lights that I can put my mouse over and they say stuff at the side.
EDITED AGAIN: Ok worked out level 3. But Im totally clueless on level 4. *Shrugs and plays with the grey buttons*
EDITED FOR LAST TIME: There we go, worked it all out and just finished. *Dances* Go me

Yeah thats one of few I haven't needed hints for. I just played around and then eventually, I realised what it wanted me to do Then its just a case of managing to do it lol!!
That was slightly different to most point and clicks though, which I guess is why I didn't need the hints.

I know nothing about computers so I'm afraid this game was totally lost on me. My way of fixing this particular computer..... lol.. LOL ;D First Kid In Space... I apologise for not answering your question earlier. Here is a complete walkthrough: Intro
The text says you have 6 new messages. Click on the Message Centre icon. The computer goes nuts, and then you see the title screen.
First Stage
There are two columns with six items each. Match them up! For example, "hyper" in the first column matches up to "text" in the second column.
Second Stage
There is a triangle. At the vertices are huge folder icons in the background. In the foreground, each vertex has a black pointer. You use the two document icons in the bottom left to move the pointers. You have to line up the pointers with the word "nothing." One document will end up near the bottom right, and the other near the top left.
Third Stage
A city scene. If you move your cursor around, there are hot spots where the computer will say a word. Find them all and mouseover each one in order to make a sentence.
Fourth Stage
Three columns of four buttons each...look familiar? Think of your telephone. The computer will flash a number just below the keypad. Type it in. Then two numbers, etc., all the way up to a series of seven. They flash only briefly and you have to remember them and type them in.
Fifth Stage
A grid of plus signs. There is a blinking circle at bottom left, and a solid one at top right. You have to get the blinking circle to the solid one. Drag the blinking circle from plus sign to plus sign the way a chess knight moves.
You have defeated the Machine!
