I was really into Dr. Who during the extremely long dry spell between TOS and TNG. I think it started with the television version of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The PBS station that aired HHG added Dr. Who to the line up right after each HGG episode. I came in during the middle of the series, and saw at least one change of actor for the Dr. Himself.
Did anyone else watch this? How long? Has anyone seen the earliest episodes? I haven't
I'm thinking that once we get through the DVD-available Voyagers and SG1s we'll probably try out both HHG and Dr. Who. If the kids can stand them (cheezy camera-work but interesting story lines) then we will probably have our next few months of Netflix rentals all figured out.

Wow, I used to be into that... a LONG time ago. And it was my brother who watched them first and since we only had one tv at the time (*gasp* how did we survive?) I watched with him... I wasn't nearly as big a fanatic as he was, though. It was a cool show.
There were something like 14 (maybe more?) Doctors and I think I saw a bit of them all, hehe. And the tardis... fully blew my mind as a kid. Even today I'm still like o.O about it. Lol, it was too cheesy for words...
I'd say more but I need to run now, nostalgia is chasing me!

I started thinking about Dr. Who last month when I saw a tardis...among the Xmas village stuff at a local store. I HAD to have it! It's stationed right between the Xmas Village BBQ restaurant and the Bait Shop. It's the classiest structure in the "neighborhood".
What can I say? If we could find a trailer and a shack with a refrigerator on the porch, our Xmas village would be complete. ;D

I love Dr Who.....although I have to say I am partial to the version who was played by Tom Baker.....some of the older doctors and such I found it kind of hard to get into watching....although they all have their good points.

I used to watch Dr. Who many years ago and liked it a lot. It´s now back on - kind of back-to-back on every Saturday, where you can see Dr. Who episodes for hours on end. LOL I am not such a big fan now anymore - somehow it all looked a little more interesting when I first saw it but it´s still an entertaining Saturday afternoon programme. There were so many Doctors - and just when you got used to one, off he goes and dies and regenerates into another one. LOL Here is a list of the Doctors. - Which one was your favourite? The First Doctor - William Hartnell - 1963-1966 The Second Doctor - Patrick Troughton - 1966-1969 The Third Doctor - Jon Pertwee - 1970 - 1974 The Fourth Doctor - Tom Baker - 1974-1981 The Fifth Doctor - Peter Davison - 1982-1984 The Sixth Doctor - Colin Baker - 1984-1986 The Seventh Doctor - Sylvester McCoy - 1986-1989 The Eighth Doctor - Paul McGann - 1996 My favourite is Sylvester McCoy, simply because it´s the shows with him I mainly watched.

I don't remember Dr Who very well (intersting note, his machine was part of TR's last versions banner) but I remember I used to watch it with my mom when I was youn, like 5 or so. I remember always wanting a scarf like he used to wear.

LOL I remember it vividly. I had my baby blanket (bee-boo) and always wrapped it around my neck, saying I was Dr. Who.

Awwww! You guys wouldn't BELIEVE the collection of LONG scarves I've amassed over the years. There's a Tibetan store about 20 miles away from my house with scarves to die for. I didn't realize my scarf fetish might have anything to do with Dr. Who, though...but the timing of the beginning of my obsession is suspicious. Long woolly warm scarves were kind of odd-looking in Florida.

I have now seen the first 3 episodes of the new Doctor Who. Has anyone else seen it yet? And what do you think? I can't make up my mind whether I like it or not. The acting reminds me of a panto, I feel as if I was watching actors on stage. Whatshisname, Christopher Eccleston or thereabouts is usually a good actor but here he plays like an amateur. Don't even want to get into the dreadful acting of his sidekick, whatshername...

I have seen some of the new ones. I like the way that in the first one they brought back an old enemy in the form of the plasic manicans.

Oooh nooooo.... that first episide with those manequins coming alive was dreadful. LOL
I quite liked the second episode though - the one where they went so far forward in time that they witnessed the destruction of Earth? I thought that wasn't a bad episode. I just don't know about the acting though...

It was bad, but if the rest are like the second one it should be a good series.

I think the second was very much in the style of the previous Dr. Whos. If you really think about it, they were all that cheesy. That's why I loved them ;D
Christopher Eccleston has said he won't be returning for a second season so they are now on the lookout for yet another doctor.

The new Doctor has already been confirmed. After all, since Christopher Eccleston is only in the first series - and the series is already airing - they were in desperate need of another guy to replace him. Anyway, the new Doctor Who will be played by David Tennant. All I can say is "who?"... I think he looks much too young to be taken serious as the Doctor but there you go. Here is a link to the official press release: www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2005/04_april/16/tennant.shtmlAnd here is a link to a site where you can see what David Tennant looks like: www.clivebanks.co.uk/Dwnewseries.htm
