Everybody had been saying on the radio that "Cassanova" was a shoe in. It seems they were right. I haven't watched the series and I've only caught snippets of ads for it so I don't know what his acting abilities are or if he's got enough charisma to be the Dr. but I guess we'll see since he's confirmed now.

I am SO jealous! The New Dr. Who isn't available where I live yet. SIGH!
From your descriptions it sounds like they're staying true to their cheesy roots! MMMMMM! Love the totally cheesy genre of SciFi!

Lol i watched it too. My favourite enimies on Dr Who are the darlics they look so cool. Often refered to as "upside down dustbins" or "pepper pots." Nice picture Warp speed. I thought it was pretty cool when the blobs on the dalek came out and it destroyed itself.

Well............the Daleks are back and how!
I have loved this whole new series of Dr Who. Christopher Ecclestone is one of the classiest British actors around at the moment and I am sad he is leaving but David Tennant will be excellent.
He made a very good cassanova - incredibly quirky and eccentric - exactly how Dr Who should be.
The first Dalek episdoe this series disappointed me - there was only one dalek and it went all touchy feely on me. Daleks are genetically engineered killing machines - they do not have feelings.
This new episode tonight was great - evil, exterminating Daleks - a whole fleet of them poised to invade the earth - this is classic dr Who. For the Americans amongst us who won't have seen it, this episode takes place on a satellite where reality shows we all know and love (hate) are used as methods of execution - or are they? To be voted out of the Big Brother house is to be 'disintegrated'. The plot continues next week.
I must confess I didn't know what to expect when they announced they were bringing back Dr Who - this is not a programme but a British Institution but they have done it proud. They have respected what the programme always did well - making the most mundane things in life suddenly appear frightening.
I'm loving it - can't wait for the DVD.

Saw today's episode - this one was a little different and it's a 2-parter. LOL BTW, next week is the last episode of the first series and then it is bye bye to Christopher Ecclestone, who I just got used to. I don't know if I care for the new guy - some teenager I never heard of.

David Tennant's not a teenager - he is over 30. I bet he'd be flattered you said that ;)LOL!
I think he will be excellent - did you ever see him in Cassanova or Blackpool? He's also taking on the role of Barty Crouch Jr in the next HP movie and is very much an established Shakespearian actor.
I think he'll be excellent - just the right balance of eccentricity and charm.
I was shocked when CE took the role as he is very much a 'serious actorrr darlink' and I think he has quit in order not to be typecast.
It's sad but DT will fill his shoes well, I feel.

I could have sworn I saw a picture somewhere on the internet of a guy just out of puperty who was supposedly be the next Dr. Who. Either they changed their minds since then or I saw a really old or bad picture of this guy. LOL And no, I didn't see "Casanova" or "Blackpool".
