I've just been thinking, what if today's Doctor Who stories were broadcast in the 1970s, adapted to feature whoever was Doctor the Doctor back then of course?
What would be the public reaction to episodes like 'The Impossible Planet/The Satan' pit back in 1975 or something like that?
Would they have been held in a different light back then? Or would they have received the same praise and criticism?
I certainly think that Mrs Whitehouse would have a few angry words to say that's for sure, especially if she saw the likes of 'The Unquiet Dead'! Also, I have a feeling she'd have filed another blasphemy suit against the BBC if she saw 'The Satan Pit' two parter.
So, what if...?

The first thing that jumped to my mind when I thought about current Doctor portrayed in the 70's is that all the special effects and stuff would be totally different. But that's not the topic, is it? This is a very tough question, and especially because I haven't seen much of the older doctor episodes so I can't really compare them. But I can't imagine anyone other than David Tennant playing the Doctor in current episodes. I mean, imagining John Pertwee or Tom Baker sitting on a computer screen saying "don't blink!"... nah. Just can't see it. Or being ages a hundred years by the Master then returning to normal (that however would be impossible to work with old technology).

The Mary Whitehouse armchair critics would definitely be up in arms over The Satan Pit and the Impossible Planet. Would probably love The Empty |Child/The Doctor Dances. They'd probably complain Fear Hear and Blink are too much for the kids, especially the latter.
