.....the original, that made it the absolute best of the trilogy in so many peoples eyes?
I mean there is no disputing the original Matrix was near perfect, but Reloaded and Revolutions fell under heavy critisism, and even the largest Matrix fans were disapointed, while still loving the original.
My mom is a perfect example of this. She LOVES the Matrix, owns the VHS and DVD, but did not care for the new movies at all, and will not watch them more then once....

I've watched all three and still prefer the first most. Reloaded seemed to be the worst, in my opinion. It was a bit cheesy and appeared to be concentrating on the fight-scenes more than the plot. And of course, the ending in Revolutions was extremely disappointing, and I think that put a lot of people off. The first film was just different to everything else before it and appealed to a lot of people, I think. Sci-fi fans in particular.

I think because it was an original idea....a shocker...unless you had read or heard about the plot before....you had no clue what was going to happen in the movie as far as what reality really was. Even the special effects were original. The other 2 movies had nothing original...they just continued a plot.

Good point Wolf.
The original was concived as a stand alone movie. Here's the problem .. it's a mega-hit the minute it goes to DVD .. people scream out for a sequel, the bros have the $$ thrown at them and away they go ... only it's four years down the track and the technology has not changed that much ... They present more of the same while trying to bring a story into it that people wont accept ..(spooky huh ??) .. because in the original, the last scene Neo promises something they can't deliver in sequels ... This is the problem with runaway hits being sequeled and sequals being back to backed ...

The second two movies didnt have the same feel as the first one.
The first one felt like you were in a dirty old hovercraft with the crew, and it felt like everyone was melancholly at impending doom, but in the second and third one everything felt almost pristine. And the characters didnt feel as real anymore.
I like Revolutions, but I hate reloaded.
There was all of 15 min of reloaded you needed to see to understand the plot.
Did you know that the fight scene with Neo, the pole, and the hundreds of smiths cost more to make than the entire first movie?

I didn't know that. But I can believe it. It was a ridiculously flashy piece of cinema. The original movie had a gritty texture that the others didn't. It captured the whole hacker subculture in an imaginitive way almost immediately, and then kept revealing more and more layers to the "machine" as the movie progressed. I think also the mysticism of Morpheus was a big piece of what carried the first Matrix.
His whole belief system was cast into doubt, though. So it wasn't the unifier that the later films really needed. And the hacker subculture was GONE and replaced with Zion by the end of Matrix, another whole layer of plot gone as far as the future movies were concerned.
If the trilogy had been conceived as a trilogy I think the first movie would not have been quite so good (more loose ends), but the trilogy could have been much more powerful with more time to develop and reveal the major themes.

I'm with Suz on this -- I liked all 3 movies. But I gotta say I didn't care much for the ending of Revolutions......especially when the Oracle is asked if they'll see Neo again, and she replies: yes What is that? Was it some lame hint at a following movie or just a filler to end the movie??

Even the special effects were original. The other 2 movies had nothing original...they just continued a plot. Not only that... suddenly you saw all those people worshipping Neo like some newly elected Dalai Lama, which I thought was really stupid, handing him their food and other presents and crap. Then you see them all living in this "city" of stone and iron and no one has anything but when they did their dance, all the women wore lots of jewellery and had richly coloured costumes on... That was of course done for the visual effect but completely unrealistic. I really couldn't give a flying hoot for no. 2 and 3. However, the first film was the best film I have seen in a long time. And even though a lot of films now copy their movements, it's still one of a kind. Oh yes, Wolf, this is another one I LOVE !! LOL

In Matrix it is a world divided between machines and humans. What is not clear even if that also tjhe part of a computer programme or a nightmare of some person. Has the world been conquered by machines? The Matrix leaves more questions than answers an absolute confusing mess.

Yes, the world has been conquered by machines, and the Matrix itself is nothing more then a computer program in which most of humanity lives in.

the thing most people fail to remember (which could possible make Reloaded and Revolutions a bit more popular) are that Revolutions is the second part of Reloaded....they're not 2 seperate films. Has anyone (besides me) seen the Animatrix.....I love it ite the perfect combination of the matrix and different anime styles

Matrix is a great movie. My uncle and dad loved it. I liked the first and second ones, but never saw the third. Often when a first movie is good, it is quite hard to make a movie that succeeds more than that movie.
