One of the many theories created around this movie has to do with this question: what if neo is actually a program, although he doesn't know it? Arguments in favor: - As the Architect lets Neo know, the One is just the result of a faulty equation, destined to go to the source and restart the Matrix to a better version. This sounds more like something a program would do. - Neo has abilities no other person has. Trinity notes in the first movie that Neo moved as fast as the Agents. Neo is able to feel the sentinels, to feel when the Agents are around. Maybe because his connection the Source is stronger than anyone believes it is? - Neo's miraculous rise from the death in the first movie. What if it wasn't Trinity's love that saved him but the fact that he couldn't die before reaching his purpose: going to the source? - the dialogue between him and Smith in the Burly Brawl. Smith tells him he wants to take away from him what he took away: purpose, just before starting to copy himself into Neo. When Neo wakes up back into Zion he tells everyone that he felt like he was dying. A program is deleted (dying) when it reaches its purpose. These are good and powerful arguments. Can you find more in favor of him being in fact just another program, another form of control? Can you find argument against? I am looking forward to seeing your views.

After reading your arguments saying Neo is a program I totally agree with you. I think he could be a program. Could something about the prophecy be thrown into the for argument. Morpheus knew there was a program that could save Zion. Programs are announced before they are implemented. I've also read information on the net saying Trinity was a program too. A repair program to resurrect dead programs. Makes sense as in the original, Neo is resurrected. Trinity then died when her purpose was complete as she didn't need to keep Neo alive. An argument against Neo being a program is that he's just human.

What about the fact that Neo exists in the real world. We see him being unplugged from the Matrix and see him in Zion.
Granted, Smith also existed in the real world, something I don't understand how it could have happened, but it did.

An argument against Neo being a program is that he's just human. Maybe the prophecy was just another form of control: if the humans were told that this "One" would save them, they would help him fulfil its mission, not knowing that this would actually destroy them. I didn't know the part about Trinity, that makes a lot of sense. Your final argument really stands. In Reloaded the Agents say something like: "Remember, he's only human". Would they say this if he were a program? Wouldn't the Agents know this? What about the fact that Neo exists in the real world. We see him being unplugged from the Matrix and see him in Zion. Granted, Smith also existed in the real world, something I don't understand how it could have happened, but it did. This is a powerful "against" argument. After all, the only way Smith, a program, got into Zion was by taking over Bane's body. Neo did exist in Zion, while programs only exist in the Matrix. You have a very good point.
