One of the ultimate horror films, also good for those classic Kurt Russel - "One liners" deliveries (Like in Big Trouble In little China). What do you think of it?
It's a classic John Carpenter film, and i've just watched it again after many years of not seeing it and it got me thinking. Alot of horror films pre-1990's can age and the effects look crappy, or you laugh more at it in later years. For me, The Thing is one of those horros that still to this day remains fresh and slightly disturbing!
The long lasting memory that disturbed me was the dog mutating, especially because it is an animal., although it didn't bother me this time (or i'm sure maybe a bit was cut?) A classic scene is someone getting torched and their head rips away, slides of a table - then grows legs to this hybrid head/spider/alien and scuttles off!
I also love the isolation and paranoia of the characters (One that would make me love season 1 X-file "Ice").
So whatd'ya think?

I think you watched it last night on TV, as did I.
John Carpenter's The Thing from 1982 is one of the better horror films. I like the interaction between the characters, which looks real and believable.
The Thing from another World, which was made in 1951, wasn't all that bad either. It also played in the Antarctic, where the scientists found an alien spaceship and its pilot in the ice. Perhaps John Carpenter saw this film and took it from there...

I watched The Thing too. I've never seen the film before and I really enjoyed it. It may be an old horror film but it's one of the better ones out there.
I thought it was pretty funny when they discovered who was the imitation. Then it grabbed someone by the head and was swinging him around while the two people on the chairs was just screaming.

Funnily enough i looked on IMDb for any interesting movie trivia and the black & white footage they were watching of the expidition was from the original movie! I love how this movie end as well with them both sitting out in the cold, still not knowing if the other is infected and the classic lines: What do we do now? I dunno, why don't we wait here, see what happens..

You know, now that you mention it, I do recall them watching this group of people building a circle around a large area of ice. Never connected it with the other film. Yes, I liked this open ending. I think they might have considered making a sequel, but nothing ever came of it.
