Does anybody remember the original mini-series from back in 1979? www.imdb.com/title/tt0079844/With my new DVD player, I can finally play this movie I bought months (maybe even a year ago)...and plan to watch it tonight. I remember watching this at least once as a kid when it originally aired and being absolutely terrified (I was 8).

I think I saw this film many years ago, but can't quite remember how it went.

I saw it so many years ago. I remember it creeped me right out. Never wanted to sleep without the sheets over my head for a good month after that. They have a remake now too I think it stars Rob Lowe

Salem's Lot is one of my favourite Stephen king adaption movies. Like you i watched it as a kid and had very strong fond memories. My two main ones were: One guy being pushed along a landing upstairs onto a wall of antlers (stuck out for me as the most gruesome bit, even though the blue vampire did disturb me also), and the fire at the end with the imfamous "Man in the moon" image (Which was a bit like a Magic Eye picture, messed with my head)
After a couple of decades i was finally lucky enough to have the chance to watch it again and enjoyed it even more! I wonder how i could've been disturbed by a bright blue vampire, but with the eyes and the "GRRR!" noises during hisepitah of a finale, i kinda understood. One great moment, and one of my favourite moments was the little boy floating through the window after turning full vampire and biting his broither.
Although the 2nd floaty boy through the window (Danny Glick) is my favourite after seeing again this year, as the young actor who plays Mark (Lance Kerwin) is really intense during that scene.

I definitely wasn't disappointed when I rewatched it. Other than a few of the typical idiosyncrisies of a 70's movie, I thought the acting and directing were excellent. No flashy special effects to scare you, just good suspense, cutting and reaction from the actors.
Now I need to hunt down some of the other movies that scared me as a kid...Exorcist, Omen, Ammityville Horror...all the good ones from before hack and slash took over.

Really? What's the re-make like? I haven't ever seen that.
