I loved the X-files when David Duchovny (sp?) was in it but once he left I kind of lost interest... well it had actually been going rather silly before that but at least I had him to watch through all the silliness's.... (by the way we share the same birthday...he's a wee bit older than me but hey 7th august rules )

I found half-way through season 1 it's being repeated on a UK cable channel so i'm rewatching it and loving it!
Originally i gave up after season 4 as it got to repeatative for me, i never saw it again not even through the Dogett years, so it'll be interesting when i get there. Watching it again though it made realise just how much i do actually love it, not just like it. So much so i would put it in my top 50 programmes of all time.
One of my favourite episodes is Ice from series one but i love how two starts with Mulder feeling all defeated and low after the X-Files was shut down [In reality to excuse Gillian Anderson who plays Scully as she was having a baby in real-life]

I've wanted to get involved with this show for a while.. but the reruns that air now are on so late.. that I'll probably have to rent season DVDs.

Yeah, they never play The X-Files here until after 11PM - generally I think they run from 11PM to 6AM on Monday nights. I still have to defend the latter seasons with Doggett. That created a unique story-arc that involved Mulder, then later on involved Scully and her child. I generally liked the long story arc episodes more then the monster of the week episodes, but that's not to say the monster of the week episodes were not good. A lot of them were thought provoking and just pure entertaining. I also loved when X Files would air the rare comedy episode, like the Christmas ghost episode where Mulder and Scully spent the night in the haunted house on Christmas, or the comedy episode where where they were making a movie about Mulder and Scully. X-Files can be so intense at times, that a comedy break here and there was a nice thing, and another aspect of the show that made it so unique. I'm happy you're loving the X-Files so much, Bones, it's one of my favorite shows. Unfortunately, it's hard for me to enjoy it anymore because for a few years I'd watch 7 episodes every night on Monday nights since I'm up all night anyway. I dare to say I've seen every single episode at least 3 times now so I'm a little burnt out on it. Have you guys seen the movie? While it's a stand alone movie, it also was integrated into the series nicely, with the following events of the movie taking place in the series. I don't remember exactly which season starts after the movie, but will try to look it up for you guys.

Nope, haven't seen the movie either. I think there's another one in the works, as well. I'm an X-Files virgin.

I wish I was an X-Files virgin again. The movie is pretty good, I highly recommend it! Chris Carter wants to make another X-Files movie, he said once in an interview that he would like to make a franchise out of X-Files movies like Star Trek did with it's movies. However, as far as I know, X-Files 2 has not been green lit for production yet, but to my sadness.

Ah... I saw David Duchovny on Jay Leno a month or two back.. and he mentioned something about one. Whether it was just his interest or that it was actually in idea mode, I don't know.

I liked the show during the early seasons, but wouldn't go out of my way to watch it. But when the plot started to really thicken in the last 3-4 seasons, I really got into it. Sad thing is, I don't think I even saw the final episodes. Aargh!!! I have too many DVD sets on my "to buy" list as it is, and now I have to add X-files. And you gotta love amazon...I just did a search for the series, and in the first 10 results they had the thin packs, ranging in price from $34.99 to $42...and right smack in the middle was the complete series for the bargain price of $546.69! Woohoo...I'm gonna order that one right away! lol (I know, it is for the old style box set)

Was that Christmas haunted house one, the one where they found two bodies, but it was really them beneath the floorboards?! If so, that was one of my favourite episodes as it was just so surreal. I also remember loving "Jose Chung's From Outer Space" as a very good funny one. I think the movie was before or after the fifth season? I may be wrong. But it was a good movie - links with the killer bees and stuff, willing Scully to "look up dammit!!" at that moment.

That's one of my favorite ones as well. I'm not sure I recognize the title "Jose Chung's From Outer Space", as I'm not familiar with a lot of the titles. Which one was that? And yes, you're right, the movie takes place between seasons 5 and 6 according to IMDb.

I only watched the show on a very sporadic basis, but I do have one question.. Who is that guy with the cigarrette? He always used to just show up, say 5 words and be gone. I almost considered him to be an alien at some point.

PupleEyes, he was basically one of the top guys in the part of the government responsible for the conspiracy Mulder was always chasing. This is why at times you would see him in the FBI Headquarters in Washington DC talking to one of Mulder's superiors, and other times you would see him with an alien body in a lab, etc. He virtually didn't exist, as far as any paper trails were concerned, and seemingly was tied high in the government's most top secret departments based on the power and authority he had. Who he was exactly, I never knew. They did do an episode on him once, but it revealed little other then he was a writer, and he was there in Dallas trying to assassinate Kennedy but Oswald beat him to it. He may have assassinated Dr Martin Luther King Jr, my memory is getting a bit foggy. He knew Mulder's father (who was also in the top secret government departments during the cold war) and he may or may not be Mulder's real father, there's much debate on that. He also may or may not have been involved in aliens abducting Mulder's sister, but the same can be said for Mulder's father. The Cigarette Smoking Man is a mystery indeed. Here's a wikipedia page on him. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cigarette_Smoking_Man

I saw a really realy good episode last night from season 2 called "a!ubrey", it was intriging!
A number of murders were being comitted where the female victims had "Sister" slashed into their chests, Mulder and Scully linked it to an almost exact same type of killings in 1942, especially when the body of an FBI agent from that time was found in the present day - some 50 years later, one who had be investigating the original similiar slash killings.

I remember that episode, it was pretty good. I liked how everything all came together in the end with that swerve they gave us.

Thanks for the wiki link... wow, you can look almost anything up on there, can't you? And I was wrong, looks like he only says 4 words an episode. ;D
