So whats your favorite classic sci-fi film? By classic I mean like 50's through mid to late 70's. I loved George Pal's creation, War of the Worlds. He did such a great job with H.G. Wells's vision. I thought it was wonderful.

I thought War of the Worlds was rather silly. Those green alien machines just looked too unreal and the acting wasn´t all that good either. But then, when is it ever. Well, I have several films I can think of but I don´t remember all the titles. One was this film where a meteor was suppose to come in 7 days and destroy Earth. They built a space ship but only a certain amount of people were able to leave. One man in a wheelchair and lots of money wanted to go but got killed in the end so Mr. "I am so in love with that gorgeous woman" was able to join her as a pilot and they lived happily ever after on that other planet. LOL That film. I also liked: Forbidden Planet, where a Professor and his gorgeous daughter were the only ones who survived on a distant planet. Now I find the film a little outdated but I always enjoy watching it. "Journey to the Center of the Earth" with James Mason was a great film too. Then there is "This Island Earth" where a group of scientists are suppose to help some aliens to get their planet back in order or something. And a man and woman are taken to that planet but they are too late. The planet is bombarded by enemy whatevertheywere. LOL So they go back to Earth where the humans are let free and the alien crashes the craft into the ocean. Oh well.... rather sad effects but enjoyable nevertheless. "The Day the Earth stood still" is a great film too. Loved it for it´s insight of human destructive nature. What I hated was the boy: Oh gee mom... !! still keeps ringing in my ears. "The Time Machine" was an excellent film. An absolute must - never mind the remake though. There are many more but I don´t want to bore you to death - just yet. LOL

The Time Machine and Journey to the Center of the Earth are definitely my favorites. I've been watching those since I was a little kid. Like Val said though... don't bother with the Time Machine remake. What a disappointment.

I've never seen War of the Worlds, or Jorney To The Center Of The Earth So in this case, I'll have to say 2001 A Space Oddesy, if that counts, and/or Close Encounters of the Third Kind, both 70's films, but I enjoyed both of those very much!

Although I can;t say I have one favorite....ONE of them has to be A Clockwork Orange.....there is something about Stanley Kubrick and Malcolm McDowell which makes this one of the most perfect movies ever made.....it is just great!

Planet of the apes, all of the originals. Star Wars came out in the seventies. I seem to remember it in elementary school ..lol
there was another one that came out, can't remember the name, But all the people lived in these domes and when they reached 30 they had to enter the lotery, if they made it out of the lottery then they lived to get older if not then they died. they had ' enforcers' who made sure that the people who were turning 30 didn't try to dodge the lotery. The main character was one of the Enforcers who was sent by the computer to find a certain lotery dodger and ended up getting screwed over by the system and he escapes with a beutiful woman to the surface and they find the ruins of a large city. etc etc..anyone know the name of that movie? Been years since I saw it but I liked it.lol

Hmm, I have never seen a movie with that plot, but I am pretty sure Sliders did an episode with that plot, where they slid into a world with those rules. No doubt Sliders copied the movie though, as there is very little originality left these days.
