It looks good. Something worth a watch. The synopsis sounds pretty Armageddon-ish so I might love the movie ;D

Is it based on anything else, or is it a completely 'new' idea?

The trailer looks alright. Sounds good too. I really like disaster films so I hope this doesn't disappoint.

kmylove, it too reminds me of Armageddon, The Core, etc. But like tobbles, I too like sci fi disaster movies, and this one seems like a lot of it takes place in space, so I have high hopes for it. Mara, I don't know if it's based on anything; nothing that I know of at least.

Not fair! This topic was on the second page, I couldn't see it! I might as well bump it 'cos I wanted to see what people think about it and it's being released tomorrow in the UK.

(NO SPOILERS)Well, I was able to see a sneak preview of this movie, and have to say I liked it. It wasn't great, it wasn't bad, but I enjoyed it. I didn't learn until tonight that the same director for this movie is the same director who made Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, A Life Less Ordinary, and The Beach, so that right there tells you this movie is going to be different from what were used to (which is a GREAT thing). In the above comparisons to Armageddon and The Core, it's more like The Core then it is Armageddon, yet nothing like the core. I'm not going to give any spoilers away to anyone, but the movie starts off as a good science fiction film, and as it goes along, it quickly turns into an intense suspenseful film that is designed to keep you in the edge of your seat. Even with all of that, this movie is beautiful. Some of the visual shots in this movie, along with the soundtrack, makes this one of most visually beautiful movies I have ever seen. Imagine if 2001 A Space Odyssey was created today by Kubrick; this is how beautiful it would be. This movie also plays on the morals of humanity well, and shows how weak humanity is can be at times, yet we still strive to try and save it. I had high hopes for this movie, and it was nothing I expected it to be. In some areas it was lacking a little, like some of the character development, but it made up for that in many, many other ways. So basically we have a classic science fiction movie that at some points becomes extremely suspenseful, yet maintains it's visual beauty all the way through, with an excellent soundtrack to top things off. I recommend seeing Sunshine when you can, and if you have high hopes for the movie, keep them high, but expect the unexpected.
