If you remember Kapt, DS9 started off slow too, and once we knew all of the characters, it took off! And PurpleEyes, yes, that is one of the things I love about it, the Humans are getting thier butts kicked. I also like how the president is keeping a count of how many people are left on the dry erase board. That brings me to another point, the dry erase board, the 20th century looking clocks, the ships that are desgned like airplanes inside, nuclear warheads as opposed to some fictional weapon. I love how they have done that, took everyday items out of our reality, and incorporated them into a futursistic sci fi series set eons ago!! Well...if you remember...the Galatica was specifically designed like that....old basic non computerized technology because the cylonc were able to infect and take over any kind of computer system...the only way they could keep the cylons from taking control of their ships was to kill all the technology on them. that's why the new Mark VII vipers got their asskicked by that cylon jamming signal in the beginning and they all got blown up...they were using computers.

I think it's pretty cool, it makes it seem that much more realistic to me!

The computational abilities a person would require to pilot a ship defies the imagination. Seriously. My dad was involved in the Gemini and Apollo efforts, writing ballistic and other computer programs (one step above 1's and 0's). It was not something you could do by the seat of your pants unless you were a math savant of nearly unique proportions. NOBODY involved in NASA at the time had that ability. I'd be surprised if it's changed. If you're curious about what it would take to really navigate a ship with grey matter (brain power) alone I have a couple of suggestions. "Starman Jones" by Robert Heinlein is 100% devoted to this concept. Other of his books, notably Methuselah's Children and Number of the Beast touch on the math conceptual and computational skills involved. It would be an extremely rare person with both the computational skills AND the physical reflexes needed. So for me, BSG's reason for going without computers makes sense. But the idea that so many people would have what it takes to be pilots kind of stretches my suspension of disbelief. But I manage

Well...on the galactica they do have SOME computers but they are not networked and they have ways of preventing them from being hijacked by the cylons....as for the Viper pilots.....I don;t think of that as being much more different than fighter pilots in modern jets. Its all a matter of simple propulsion and a control stick...just with no gravity.....I think if you are trained as a space based fighter pilot it's probably second nature to you.

Well, after watching last night's eppy, I think I can say that I'm liking it a little more. The first two eppys I really didn't care for. But it's new, it'll take a bit
Last night's was much better. It wasn't as slow, and it had some action to it that wasn't so dark and dry. I still don't like the way the camera moves around in conversations though. That annoys me and I doubt I'll get used to it

Of the first series I saw, they are certainly departing early from what happened. Considering they had to leave any ships not capable of FTL travel behind, things certainly have been...interesting so far.
Mini-series? rocked. First two eps? nice start. Latest ep? nice re-use of original actors.
It will be interest to see how they solve the matter of supplying the civilians - and themselves - with the necessary food and water they'll need.

Quite Right. Since Ron Moore is behind BSG and he was also the Co-Executive Producer, Writer for DS9.( the greatest tv show in all time IMHO ). Give it a season to establish the characters. I'm still a Daggit at heart, but yet I am a SciFiJunkie. I WILL watch it. and I know I'll take a liking to it. But I am a Daggit and would prefer the original mythos. And for those that feel the original was campy, I have to say this..... comparing BSG ToS to BSG 2.0 is like comparing Star Trek ToS to TNG. TV shows a made with a BUDGET. Remember Trek's answer to klingons and their look???

And tapes, and be sure to plug the VCR in, and set it to the right channel... (In case it's not obvious, I am being sarcastic; I mean well, but I'm sarcastic in nature.) Just to see how different the first version is from this one - aside from budget, effects, etc - I may have to find a way to watch the original BSG. Or I just may leave well enough alone and watch the new BSG, contend that I'm probably not missing much.

Actually, I don't use tapes or a VCR. I have a DVR. It's almost idiot proof. Which means I can run it pretty good without error. Well, most of the time anyway ;D
